We have armed secret police kidnapping people off the street based on the color of their skin.

When we win: we will haul them before a Senate committee. The masks will come off. There will be consequences.

Saw Annie Hall most recently in 2009, and kept thinking that Diane Keaton’s character deserved better than that awful man.

The first time I saw Annie Hall. It was 1977, in a movie theater in downtown Olympia, Washington. I was with a guy with whom I shouldn’t have been involved, but was. Afterward, we went over to a cafe called the Brown Derby for strawberry pie and spoke worshipfully of Woody Allen’s genius.

One night in the ‘80s, I was waiting in line for a movie — maybe in front of the Waverly — with my boyfriend. This woman walked by who we both instantly recognized. She wasn’t fabulously dressed, but she seemed to glow, to radiate light like a star. Seeing Diane Keaton walk by was somehow magical.

I don’t know that there has ever been an administration as humorless as Trump II. So countering its rampant abuses with over-the-top goofiness is a genius strategy.

Not an economist, but I don’t understand how systematically sabotaging opportunity for one group of Americans doesn’t sabotage the economy as a whole.

Chicagoland is a friendly, safe, vibrant, & fun place. I’m very happy my kids have grown up in the Rogers Park neighborhood of the city, & in Evanston. They’re both wonderful places.

But ICE is attacking us. People are doing everything possible to protect their neighbors. But it’s hard.

After spending 43 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, evidence hidden by the prosecution reversed his conviction. Rather than finally enjoying freedom, ICE abducted him for deportation

Depraved.

Arguably, it’s a good strategy to leave the insoluble problems out of a cease-fire deal. Still, the fact that there’s been no agreement about who governs Gaza, whether Hamas disarms, or whether Israel withdraws suggests that peace is still a long way off.

Carolina Miranda was asked by the Washington Post to write a series of columns on the aesthetic culture of Trumpism. Great gig…until they pulled the plug on her. I guess they didn’t think she was writing “in support and defense of…personal liberties and free markets.”

The Chicago minister who was targeted and attacked multiple times by ICE agents points out how undisciplined and poorly supervised they are. Makes sense. They are there to foment chaos.

Handy chart.

You’ll be shocked (shocked!) to discover that 89% of the EPA’s workers have been furloughed whereas only 5% of the Homeland Security team has been sent home. (Although it appears that the ICE thugs are currently working without pay.)
