Sadly, this isn’t even being talked about in the negotiations because #CanadaPost won’t even agree to basic job protections.

Thanks for adding your perspective! I agree, it is so sad what our neoliberal politicians have allowed to happen to our postal service & other public institutions. From your perspective, what policy changes would you suggest to get from where we are now to where we want to be?

Absolutely, and that’s the case here, too. But the point is that it’s a formalized program providing an additional income stream, and posties will pop in for a half hour for a cup of tea etc. I encourage you to read the full article.

It’s absolutely right that workers walk off the job in response to the government taking a chainsaw to Canada Post.

If we lose the unique national infrastructure the postal service has, it will never be rebuilt. We should be using it to expand services to the public, not nickel and diming it.

For those who say “it would never work here!” the article describes how the postal service in France was facing decreases in lettermail (like here) & budgetary pressures. This program is an innovative way to modernize the system while adding a new income stream. Privatization is NOT the only option!
