Thus came the North/South divide.

William the Conqueror killed Harold II at Hastings on this day 1066. Of his Harrying of the North, one writer said: 'So terrible a famine fell upon the humble and defenceless people, that more than 100,000 Christian folk of both sexes, young and old alike, perished of hunger.'

I need to know what Bob Hoskins said to Princess Diana in front of Roger Rabbit at the London premiere of WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT (1988).
Bob Hoskins meets Princess Diana as a full size Roger Rabbit costumed character stands next to them.

There’s absolutely no-way that Nelson & Emma’s time in Naples isn’t a ludicrously expensive Luca Guadagnino, Merchant Ivory film starring Emma Corrin as Lady Hamilton, Josh 0’ Connor as Nelson & Richard E Grant as William Hamilton and his erotic art collection.

Got into an arguement on Instagram where I may have mentioned I was in favour of means-testing Winter Fuel payments and the other person is not talking about why Gen-Z need to be put in 'National Service work camps' and the UK needs to stop 'wasting money in Ukraine'.

It’s such soviet fake democracy, ‘come vote on our policies (which have been decided based off smaller, less advertised regional assemblies and combined by the central team and the leaders office)’ but the policy could be *anything*

Might write to Iris Apfel and ask if she wants her sunglasses back.

Yes, I think you have 'Anglican' as a kind of base default (though I'm not sure if that really resonates with the under 40s at all?), but only 5% actually attend Church, one of the lowest rates in Europe.

I mean, I am aware that 'permanently online uncles' now equate to the entire political spectrum according to several leading newspapers.

I think everybody is noticing the pick-up in 'Christian country' rhetoric from Turning point & Tommy Benidorm - but given how few people actually attend Church in the UK, in stark contrast to the US mega-congregations does this really have legs beyond permanently online uncles?

The right-wing campaign group that helped topple Roe v Wade in the US is now working to roll back abortion laws in the UK, with the help of Nigel Farage.

Its first step? Trying to create a debate around "free speech"

I actually can't articulate what Waits means to me; I simply don't have the talent or the words, only that upon first listening to him, it was as if a new neural pathway opened in my brain.

Every couple of weeks someone great dies and we all make a big thing about how great they are (this week's is Diane Keaton) and it's always lovely because everyone is talking about fun things a cool person did. But I wish we could nominate one person a week we did that for *without* them dying.

Trying out Manor Lords again and there’s always a population tipping point where your town just goes completely to shit because there’s just not enough rabbits in the local forest.

Tesco finally sells a cider that isn’t total vinegar (as evidenced). It’s still Drench though. Shouldn’t be this hard lads.

Would love for one of the weekend papers to commission a '100 problems the Government could solve by 2029' with views from various industry experts - in part to shift the focus off immigration for 20 seconds and secondly so the Government could do some of it.

I do think part of the palm leaf trial being laid out for Farage is mostly out of boredom / narrative starvation. They know he's going to sell papers and drive clicks. The problem is that this enthusiasm can come across rather poorly.

It's a very illustrative post, isn't it? Many lobby journalists and Tim in particular were absolutely tied to that particular mast, precisely because the Conservatives were total gossip fiends & Johnson was their Game of Thrones finale. Very few Labour MPs cut the same dash (Rayner as an exception)

the ending of THE GODFATHER, the best american movie ever made, doesn't work without diane keaton's final look --- at the realization of who she's married and what her life is going to become and what corruption lurks behind closed doors. unforgettable, inimitable work. RIP.

I was not prepared for how excited my mother and sister would be to visit a big Marks & Spencer’s (Shoreham). It’s like they had sugar high, the whites of their eyes gleaming.

My mother actually barged an old woman out the way to purchase 3x £30 Advent Calendars consisting of scented candles.
