The only reason I haven't deleted twitter yet is becaus it's the only public place I made this prediction
For all the brits who are slightly panicked and confused, this is OU as in University of Oklahoma not the Open University
people who are taking issue with how the instructor handled this student’s (imo unacceptable) submission are missing the point entirely. revise and resubmit? give a low nonzero grade? why think any of *those* responses wouldn’t have sent the libsoftiktok machine in motion too?
having assigned reaction papers in many of my classes i look at this student’s essay and cannot glean what the content of the original assigned reading was, nor do i see how a reference to the Genesis creation story illuminates the argument of that assigned reading. I would have rejected this paper.

it is also something nobody cares about outside of political journalism. It's like opening your Christmas presents at 3am if you're not a child.
I mean it is objectively hilarious that the media and government are trying to hype the OBR leak as a cybersecurity thing

When any digital manager at a large institution could tell you in about ten minutes.

Less if I knew what CMS it was.
Being very "well, actually", and going just by www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... - my gut feeling is that it was working as designed... it just wasn't designed for these conditions.

You know this area well, is the investigation result likely to be published?

My budget-related shower thought is that even if we don't make huge amounts from them, taxes aimed at the super-rich would vastly increase the willingness of everyone else to pay a bit more as well.

When I was doing my journalism postgrad, we had a BBC journo come in to tell us how it is.

"where do you get your *ideas* for stories?"
"Oh I read lots of other news outlets and do those stories. I found one in an archaeology mag recently and it did really well"
<<uncomfortable silence>>
I guess it’s a compliment that the top story on BBC London’s TV/online output today is a direct lift of a month-old London Centric story? But once again the BBC is consistently the worst news outlet for actually remembering to credit others.

It's been a frustrating week trying to get wind farms built.

Meanwhile Welsh Gov released its AI policy document this week, and it mentioned one of the benefits being the UK grid and a wind farm that got commissioned nearly nine years ago.
BNEF: global CO2 emissions "are expected to be 3.5 gigatons greater over the next ten years because of the additional fossil-fuel power generation required by data centers. That’s the equivalent of 10% of today’s total global emissions." www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...
Why So Much Is Riding on the Data Center Boom
In pursuit of revolutionary advances in AI, tech companies are plowing billions of dollars into massive new facilities. The projects are straining power grids, environmental resources and, potentially...

The other side of drinking in your thirties is that the list of acceptable booze becomes much shorter.

It is unclear if expensive booze is itself less likely to induce hangovers or I can merely afford less of it.

The weekly paper I wrote, maybe ten years ago, had a political column, that occasionally included words from Gill, sent in by Alex Phillips (now of TalkTV?).

I can't see them, but I do wonder what was in them, and what everyone else in the operation knew...
In Wales, we take a special interest in Gill’s crimes because Reform will be a major player in the 2026 Senedd election. Had he not been found out, it is more than likely that he would have been heading back to the Senedd ✍️Martin Shipton wp.me/p8Mk4U-19lT
