In watching The Wire, I was not prepared for how much they say "The Wire"

It's like if every episode Don Draper was all BUT WE HAVE TO KEEP BEING MAD MEN.

My opinion on this PM is going to be exclusively formed on the next renewables auction round.

Here's my favourite tangent to this which I probably say all the time: the guy saying the french words is this guy: youtu.be/Ft2U58G5Szw?...

Just FYI, a gigawatt of demand capacity will need an equivalent offshore wind farm of maybe about 250-400 square km to produce the necessary GWh over a year.
edzitron.com
Usually it's given in gigawatts of *capacity* - so IT load (the amount of stuff you can run) - because that's how "powerful" it is. Chips, however, are not bought in "gigawatts" and in this case the chips aren't even finalized. It's all hogwash

I’m curious, why is the size of data centers is given in gigawatts and not number of chips? I vaguely remember you explaining it on the podcast, but forget the reason.

Peak Airbnb was 2012, when I booked a stay in San Francisco and got the spare room of one of the founders. He had stopped doing that by 2013.

That is nuts. In 2014 I remember getting somewhere in Rome for our honeymoon, and the owner being some dude that worked at the UN who left wine and chocolate it seemed worth as much as we were paying. Now it's people who are too lazy and also greedy to be buy to let landlords.

as an addendum, next time you do anything like travelling or hotel booking, try and imagine what it'd be like if you and your partner had three kids with you, if you want some proof about how un-family friendly the UK can be.
joshowenmorris.co.uk
unfortunately not, I'm fortunate that mostly when I travel, it's for work and I don't have to worry too much. TBH for anywhere mainstream, I just wheel my bike in past the front desk without a word. Generally anywhere it's a problem they'll accommodate you somehow when you say "this is worth £2k"

mostly yes but not entirely. I think a lot of their trade is based on travelling business, tradesmen with vans etc. I've often travelled with a bike on the train, which helps. The absolute dream is always finding a little hotel/b&b with good rates that you can then book directly with :)

Stopped using AirBnB when I moved to north west Wales and saw what it was doing here.

A budget hotel is generally not more expensive unless you have three kids. And you get breakfast and no surprise cleaning costs.
anonopin.bsky.social
AirBnB was good for about 5 minutes. Now it's more expensive than a hotel, more hassle and generally less convenient.

Caught a bit about the supposed Chinese spies on R4 this morning.

Is it bad that every time I hear about something Kemi Badenoch is going on about, I assume it must be insane?

I mean, it is bad, but bad for who?

Things have started to get moving again in the last year, but it's now 5 years since we last built an onshore wind farm, and 10 years since we last built an offshore one in Wales. Of the total Contracts for Difference (CfD) auctions over the past 5 years, Wales has won less than 1% of the total.

Same in Wales. Unfortunately, Welsh government is happy to put more and more conditions on everything, so less and less is happening, and developers under 350MW have been investing in Scotland instead...
