I'm pretty sure you're better off with ditch diggers who can read maps, use a tape measure, fill out a time sheet, and read the warning sign about the gas line where they're digging. A basic level of education is necessary for even manual drudgery in a functional society.

Here's one example of how video games are being used in the classroom as educational tools.

People used to say the exact same thing about comic books, yet they are now acknowledged as art.

Kingdom Come Deliverance taught me an incredible amount about 15th century Bohemia, so much so that I've been reading even more about it since playing the games. They are art.

I build computers. Kids with no education cannot afford a high-end gaming computer. And you would be surprised at the number of highly successful middle-aged people like doctors and lawyers who want a high-end gaming system for themselves, not their kids.

And I used to read pulp science fiction in class when I was bored before FPS games were invented. That problem is not with a particular genre of games, it is with the lack of stimulation in class. But this has nothing to do with the need to provide children a safe environment to learn.

The person you were replying to was pointing out one reason why many children are rationally afraid of school, and ways in which schools can address that fear. I'm not sure what first person shooter video games have to do with managing the spread of COVID.

School is a great place to be, until it isn't.
Students fear school for its lack of safety from bullying, its lack of learning resources that would help them navigate and succeed, or its emphasis on the students who succeed easily and the invisibility of those who do not.

This is about the sudden, very large drop in net migration.

No one on the right or far right is cheering this drop.

Nor should they be - a 400,000 drop in net migration costs us £28 Billion in tax receipts (OBR).

I guess Labour had to do it just to show how stupid it is.
Except the plebes aren't cheering?

Starmer's approval rating is just north of ebola.

The papers are all still yelling.

Reform hasn't exactly endorsed this.

We're robbing Peter to pay no one. Paul is still broke.

UK has a bunch of problems.

Migration is a politically unpopular way to address many of them.

The UK government wants everyone to throw them a nice little flag shaggy parade for choosing not to use it - while doing nothing else to fix the problems.

I guess I could imagine doing a victory lap if UK growth was super high, the budget was balanced, essential services were fully staffed, innovation was booming and the country felt energized and dynamic - all somehow with low net migration.

But none of that is true.

Setting aside the merits of migration, getting it down isn't some massive achievement when the officials who issue visas work for you.

You can just order them to issue fewer visas.

It's a tap you control, why are you bragging about turning it?

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Right wing newspapers screaming that young people are fleeing the country because of the "Rachel Reeves high tax budget!"

This is based on 174,000 16 to 34 year olds leaving.

In the year to March 2025.
The budget was 2 days ago.

Daily Mail readers won't notice this.

Those on the right all the pundits and politicians etc received the same press release yesterday, to go out and defend Nigel Farage.
I don’t think there’s any point challenging illusions on this level. I mean, she’s convinced Nigel is going to ‘save the country’ — so what chance is there she’ll accept anything people have claimed about his youth, or anything former colleagues and allies have said? Reality doesn’t stand a chance.👇
