Is psychological safety all “warm and fuzzy”? Or have we as a group become afraid of uncertainty and failure…? “There is a really big difference between discomfort and distress” says Mylopoulos.

@icreconf.bsky.social Great start to the day with a discussion of productive struggle and adaptive expertise. Proud of @maxfg98.bsky.social representing the McGill IHSE in this important discussion
Faculty tend to teach how they were taught. Concepts like productive struggle are complex & (sometimes) uncomfortable for faculty. Where are safe spaces for faculty to practice these skills, so they can integrate into clinical teaching confidently? A call for engagement with FacDev? #ICRE2025
Much ‘curricula’ in residency programs is guided by the affordances of the clinical learning environment and tends to be somewhat opportunistic. Is it time to have conversations about some deliberate design strategies around teaching around fostering things like productive struggle? #ICRE2025
Comments like « that was good » tend to have unintended messages about whether performance can actually improve. Language matters. #ICRE2025
Faculty development in this area is key as we work towards learning spaces that foster productive struggle and help learners feel supported in their learning #ICRE2025

« Clinical learning environments pose unique challenges! ». Mylopoulos in todays plenary. Yes! They are complex! How do we design for this complex environment?

Education isn't about getting rid of uncertainty but embracing it, requiring epistemic humility to recognize what we don't know #ICRE2025
How can we design curriculum to
Capitalize on appropriate productive struggle? Especially in the high risk high stress environment our learners inhabit? #ICRE2025.

We see medical experts vs celebrity influencers in the battle against health misinformation.

But what about the dangers of predatory academic journals and the rise of low quality publications?

We need to protect curious patients who are just genuinely looking for answers.

Really interesting to see how people embrace of medical misinformation, stemming from the desire to be part of a community.
