How do we as faculty role model uncertainty to our learners - showing that we also don't know everything?

How do we ensure that they feel supported even if they fail? #ICRE2025
There's a big difference between discomfort and distress. What are we making learners feel safe about?

How do we help learners through struggle but make it not feel like a performance? #ICRE2025
Psychological safety doesn't mean feeling comfortable all the time - it means being able to speak up and take interpersonal risks without retribution #ICRE2025
Struggle can help with learning but not all struggle is necessary and not all struggle is productive #ICRE2025
Education isn't about getting rid of uncertainty but embracing it, requiring epistemic humility to recognize what we don't know #ICRE2025
Excited on this plenary on productive struggle, adaptive expertise, and psychological safety - how do we strike the balance that helps us to achieve all three? #ICRE2025 @icreconf.bsky.social
"How do we address times when there is a lack of insight or self-awareness in learners?" #ICRE2025

In 1988, The ASN sent a letter to every member asking them to submit cases of patients with a sodium < 105. They received 64 letters and produced a case series of 56 patients. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8025225/

This is a poster child for recall bias yet has been referenced over 100 times

Honey, stop what you're doing, new hyponatremia research just dropped!

What's it say?

It looks like slow correction is associated with worse outcomes, like death and length of stay!

Was it just a small study?

No, it was a meta-analysis of almost 12,000 patients!

Correction Rates and Clinical Outcomes in Hospitalized Adults With Severe Hyponatremia
