Great thread on g+ numbers from the finals. Bruninha also stands out here with 0.12 raw g+ in only 27 minutes
Some NWSL final stats

Sonnett led the match in raw g+, from some high value set piece receptions, but Gotham really dominated in raw goal probability in the middle roster spots

If you're not reading Abigail's work on the NWSL yet, you can fix that problem immediately.
Gotham smashed the Washington Spirit's hopes and won their second NWSL championship in three years, as questions about the league's future loom large. My dispatch from San Jose, where I saw the human drama of the final up close:
Gotham Grabs The Crown Of An NWSL At A Tipping Point | Defector
SAN JOSE, Calif.  — Jaedyn Shaw set the tone. Rose Lavelle tapped the ball at kickoff, and Shaw booted it toward the Washington Spirit’s net, which keeper Aubrey Kingsbury was helplessly far from. The...

Four Spanish coaches are going head-to-head in this weekend’s #NWSL + #LigaMXFem finals.

I wrote about their connections, differences, and journeys

How Spanish Managers Are Dominating Women’s Soccer in North America
The biggest finals in the U.S. and Mexico will feature coaches from Spain facing off for trophies. Is there a formula or is it just coincidence?

Given these teams’ history with one another, expect Saturday’s championship match to be a dogfight carrying a little added emotional weight.

This is so little money
“Rockefeller told staff in September that the loss of WETA’s CPB Community Service Grant created a $6.7 million budget shortfall for FY26 and a projected $9 million shortfall for FY27.” And if that holds, I’m not sure how much of the NewsHour will be left by 2028. People need to grasp how bad it is.

The Democrats who voted for surrender should be hounded out of office asap. But the responsibility for this disaster runs much deeper than that. Any Democrat who does not vote for new leadership to prevent this endless replay of failure does not deserve your support.

#NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman spoke to media at Audi Field during the halftime break.

Asked about the league's change from its prior policy on trans players & future plans for a new policy, and got this reply:

I don't think it was that they didn't know what they were getting with Trump 2.0 as such, but more that they hated inflation and a total lack of imagination. Also worth saying this is a certain segment of voters - maybe 10% or so

The thing about billionaire fragility is this: if their money doesn't buy them the power and influence, they have to ask themselves what is this all for? And they are very very not prepared to be confronted with the pointlessness of their wealth accumulation otherwise.
MAMDANI: “.. I am here to admit something. They are right. We are an existential threat to billionaires who think their money can buy our democracy.”

One issue I have with the argument here is that this is an approximately once-a-century change. I think we should reason about this more from first principles than based on assumptions that current trends continue ~forever.
I think the prop 6 to move election day is ultimately a big fuck you to local media, so I wrote about why we need to stay separate from the oxygen destroyer that is the presidential race (and talked to smarter political minds than myself about it too): read it here nygroove.nyc/proposition-...
Proposition 6: Why local media might suffer if we move election day
It's hard enough to get people to pay attention; moving election day will make it worse
