Pretty pleased with their efforts, tbh...

#DiscomfortOfThought required to #RethinkNicotine.

And there's plenty to be uncomfortable about.

But I do believe we all have to get more comfortable with being uncomfortable. I am grateful that @unbiasedscipod.bsky.social agrees on that point.

Nuance is hard. Reflexive positions are easy. Public health has a long, fraught history with Big Tobacco, and that history makes it difficult to look at anything the industry touches without suspicion. I get it. I feel it.
The Call I Didn’t Want to Take
I lost my dad to cigarettes. Then I took a call from the vape industry.

Just learned about this study looking at methodological trends in psych and econ over time: online.ucpress.edu/collabra/art....

Matches my perception well: Nobody in psych bothers to (explicitly) try causal inference unless they conducted an experiment, not a lot of theoretical work either.

Eyes now turn to @nejm.org's NEJM Evidence journal for what they will do with the "contested meta-analysis" mentioned in the @retractionwatch.com coverage.

I think that this is bigly important.

I fear that lots of other things may contribute (synergistically?) to the avoidance of "respectful confrontation" (as amazeballs dude Joe Weston teaches), but it all matters.

TY, @drsherrypagoto.bsky.social, for so clearly laying this out.

He’s going to try and escalate even further with Venezuela, illegally, and he’s going to say it’s bc of fentanyl.

Venezuela does not make or move fentanyl into the US.

(It would be a huge deal if they did.)

Do not fall for it. Overdoses are indeed horrible but Venezuela isn’t to blame.
