We’ve seen this story too many times to think it will have a different ending. Democratic voters are not going to suddenly question everything they have ever assumed to be correct, like “our leaders are good and want to help us, and we owe them loyalty and our votes.”

Here’s a nice precursor to today’s TPUSA/JBS joint action—a Birch Society summer camp for Reagan youth. bsky.app/profile/seth...
It wouldn't be a thread on the genealogy of the US far right without a John Birch Society reference. Here's a brochure for a summer camp they ran in the 1980s where kids could learn the tenets of Americanism.

The old school Birchers would love that Meta and TikTok are sponsors of TPUSA's gathering...the JBS was basically a right wing propaganda outfit that was limited in its reach by the limited media technology of the pre-social-media era. This is their dream scenario. bsky.app/profile/azrw...
Checking in on updates for Turning Point USA’s upcoming Phoenix conference AmericaFest and TikTok being a listed sponsor is definitely new this year.

In 1964, WABC brought their cameras to a John Birch Society meeting. Here we see a critic of the far right pointing out the classic antisemitic propaganda evident at the meeting. Birchers said this crap, even though they knew they were being filmed. youtu.be/L3uQLuleMjQ?...

To a great extent, the OR GOP is the wildly dysfunctional and extremist organization that it is today in part because the JBS was able to get a foothold in the OR GOP early on and maintain it, despite how ridiculed that group was after the early 1960s. rightlandia.ghost.io/when-did-the...
When did the conspiracy-obsessed, fascist-friendly far right first get a foothold in the Oregon Republican Party? Would you believe me if I said 1962?
A story about that time in 1962 when a group of former Silver Shirts and present white nationalists and Christian supremacists came close to taking over the Multnomah County Republican Party.

This "Gathering of the Eagles" is an annual "conservative" gathering in Oregon that began in the Tea Party era. I know of at least one current neo-Nazi who used to be a regular attendee. Other attendees have included virtually every Republican running for statewide office. bsky.app/profile/seth...
Happening today near Salem, OR. This is a far right/GOP event that has been happening annually for over a decade. It's regularly attended by Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, and the John Birch Society. Now add Sarah Palin, Gateway Pundit guy, & the famous "Lone Raccoon" from Telegram to that list.

Trump on Americans' healthcare costs going up by 200-300%: "Don't make it sound so bad"
Q: At the end of this year, those extended Obamacare subsidies expire. What's your message to those 24m Americans who will see their premiums go up?

TRUMP: Don't make it sound so bad. Obviously you're a sycophant for Democrats. You're obviously a provider of bad news for Republicans.

Streeting is asking for a “consensus” with another cis politician but not with trans people.

A bit like a “consensus” about women’s bodily autonomy in the Vatican, or about LGB rights in the Westboro Baptist Church.

To call it a “consensus” at all is very revealing and demonstrates…
