![I haven’t had the privilege of citizenship for 15 years, so though I spent most of my life in the City I hesitate to claim too much insight on that ground — the world is full of New York exiles, and I assume that for every one like me there’s at least one sunburnt white Florida geezer who wishes they’d put Julie Annie back in to lock up all the [your ethnic slur here].
And, in fact, back in the day my neighbors did put in Giuliani, and Ed Koch and Eric Adams too (after a ranked-choice primary, no less!). Never forget that the oligarchs all have palaces, pieds-à-terre, and other investments there, and the mind-rays of their media hit home as well as out in the sticks.
But there aren’t a lot of the old-school Archie Bunker hardhats left in the City, and they have been replaced by a younger, left-er, and (oooh how the Mamdamners hate this) darker-skinned population. Also, new or old, New Yorkers can also be kinda… truculent when you get on their bad side. How's my workday going? Can't get to my VDI, can't do a lick of work. Was told to try rebooting the laptop, and, lo, 50 minutes later.... I'm still getting the "Restarting...." animation. The only way to stop it is to smash the laptop against the wall.
Good news: I have time to clean the screen.

We saw Rode again, introing Inferno (1953), an oddball selection for Noir City DC: set in the desert; in Technicolor; in 3D. At first, the projector glitched, and we were greeted with a flickering 2D mess, soon fixed via reboot. It was gorgeous, and Robert Ryan's face/eyes carried much of the film.

Politics, amongst other things, is a business. And there are people like this who work, in some capacity, for the Democrats. The difference is: that Jeffries staffer, that DSCC fundraiser, they aren't trying to advance the policies/careers of people who want to install a psychopath's dictatorship.

My simmering hatred for Limbaugh and his toxic ecosystem still exists: when I was back in NYC a few days ago, walking past MSG, I instinctively hoisted a couple of middle fingers at where I imagined his EIB studios were located.

There was a small No Kings gathering by the farmers market in downtown Silver Spring, not listed on the site, thus averting the logistical nightmare of two big events in one general space. We weren't 100% sure it was happening, so we went out there for brunch, groceries, and a film at AFI as Plan A.

Via @iwfnet on Insta. The great Song Kuk Hyang this week in the brand-new -69 kg class at the World Championships (she won the -76 kg class last year). Since it's the first year, it's "not too hard" to set a World Record. On the other hand, this is a 150-pound woman hoisting 330 pounds.
