Hello I'm Jesse!

I make youtube videos mostly about GameBoys www.youtube.com/@systemoflev...

Some of the videos are deep dives into how the GameBoy works; like my recent series on memory www.youtube.com/playlist?lis... or my ongoin series on graphics www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Hello I'm Jesse and I'm solving problems no one else seems to be having. GameBoys, programming, electronics, whatever I can think of!

Hey cool!
This video has gotten over 1k views in its first 10 hours. I think that's the first time one of my videos broke 1k in the first day

I spent a bunch of time getting this juuuuust right. It's the ending of a video I'm working on. Since it's at the very end it'll probably be seen by like 20% of viewers

I was working on it instead of doing the more impactful but super boring task of going through the video to add visuals and b-roll

More playing with editing and trying to make an interesting sequence of shots

might use it for some video with a voice over maybe

apparently 2 days ago my video introducing GB Studio (youtu.be/iiJLRNQgjNk) had an RPM (how much money I make per 1000 views) was CA$132. If only it had more than 9 views that day... 😛 A buck 20 ain't bad though!

I swear, you could teach an entire graduate level compilers / static-analysis class just about the game boy

I wrote up a post going over some of my youtube channel's analytics. Figured it could be helpful for other small youtube channels.

Well I didn't get unreasonably lucky, the new broken camera didn't turn out to be working.

I did get a little lucky though. The camera had a 256GB sd card in it. It's pretty slow, 50MB/s. But still, it's value more than makes up for the shipping cost!
Well, I bought a broken one off ebay... who needs to make good decisions

It doesn't power on, so hopefully it has the same problem mine had. It was a common fault apparently, so good chance.
The camera is the canon 70D. It had a common fault that bricked it. I could buy another BROKEN one and try the fix again... I would probably want to get a hot air gun though, might make it more doable 😅

I DID make a new 10 hour fireplace video! youtu.be/GgV1-JiTVI0

Got to fix a few things in my video playing game boy code and added a feature that lets you specify how many times video should loop when building the ROM, fading to black at the start of the next loop.

I forgot to mention it in the video but I have a version of the assembly code with detailed comments: systemoflevers.com/misc/gameboy...

Oh no! I just realized I never finished the script for the 5th part of my game boy graphics video! How did I forget that...

Well I got the right chip up but I managed to rip off a pad AND lose a tiny resistor. So much for my cheap fix for my old camera
it took a lot of patience but after a while I finally managed to get half of the wrong chip desoldered and up... good thing I doubled checked before getting all the way desoldered

the right chip looked easier but it's in way tighter quarters. My chunky soldering tip might not be up to the task
