Appears 4g uncle William had impulse control issues. Accused of "seduction" in the summer of 1874, he fled to damn near Dubuque, Iowa from Kent County, Michigan. Dragged back by a deputy weeks later. I'm pretty sure he did not, in fact, wed Ms. Annis. #genealogy #ancestry #familyresearch #history

The Michigan pioneer I'm researching lived in a tight-knit community in rural Kent County. How tight-knit? I found an 1860 Ag census that, on one sheet, includes two 4g gfs, two 6g uncles (one also a 5g uncle-in law), two 5g gfs, and three or four others I know are kin but can't ID yet. #genealogy

Genealogical info comes in odd forms. My uncle George Bruns was involved in a freak accident while riding a streetcar in Chicago in May 1939. Sounds bad but George recovered fully, married and had two daughters. I can't find any news reports via newspapers.com but my mom kept this clipping.

What do you think they ate? Look at this transcript from a 27 Nov. 1868 news report. My 4g gm Almira had wed Lorenzo Brown 4 years earlier, so she and son Augustus, my 3g gf, then almost 17, were 2 of about 35 party guests for Thanksgiving 157 years ago. #genealogy #ancestry #familyresearch #history

Genealogists Warn that AI Image Generators Threaten Historical Records - The Quantum Record
AI is useful for piecing together fragmented historical records, but genealogists warn that image generators distort old and damaged photos.

I swear a good third of client work is just having a crapload of experience reading these records and seeing things that newbies miss on documents they already have. #genealogy #ancestry #familyresearch #history

Michigan pioneer research into Orleans Spaulding of Kent County. Very close-knit families. Orleans married Rilla Spaulding. Rilla's brother Miner married one of Orleans' daughters, Sally A., from his first marriage to Sally VanDyke Spaulding. So, his brother in law is also his son in law. #genealogy

Continuing research on 5g gf Orleans Spaulding to prove Michigan pioneer lineage. Thought he snuck in just months before statehood, but now know he lived here several years prior. Here he is about three years before, paying $50 for the 40 acres he patented. #genealogy #ancestry #puremichigan

For fun, I’m going to prove descent from my 5g gf Orleans Spaulding for this Michigan Pioneer Certificate Program. I didn’t think I had pre-statehood Michiganders, but digging around today I found a land patent for him from about 6 months before. #genealogy #ancestry #puremichigan #history

Deep dive at Michigan Archives today. Found oath of naturalization from 1904 for my 2g gf Herman Stielow, a Prussian immigrant born in 1867 in what is is now Dolicë, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland. Filed while his wife Minnie was pregnant with my g-gm. #genealogy #ancestry #immigration #history

This spring, new AI photo tools arrived. Genealogists experimented. Then quickly we realized: these tools don't "restore" historical photos—they may fabricate new faces.

By August, these "restorations" were everywhere, unlabeled, corrupting our shared historical record. #genealogy
