Mississippi State Health Officer Dr. Dan Edney encouraged families to keep newborns at home and away from many visitors, especially sick people, during the baby’s first 6 to 8 weeks of life.

The state, like much of the country, is dealing with a rise in potentially deadly whooping cough cases.
Mississippi Baby Dies of Whooping Cough Amid Rising Cases
A baby in Mississippi has died of whooping cough for the first time since 2012. The baby was less than two months old—too young for vaccination.

The Guardian has now completely retracted quotes from an anonymous high school source who had called Tyler Robinson a “leftist.” The source now says they couldn’t accurately recall details of their relationship.

This Guardian quote from an anonymous person who said he knew Robinson in high school years ago, but hasn’t spoke to him in several years, who said he was supposedly a leftist, has been retracted. This single anonymous quote has been posted by thousands of right-wing accounts.

Egregious example of this was when the anti-public health crowd held up Sweden’s lack of restrictions as the example to follow, then Sweden saw much higher COVID hospitalizations and deaths than Scandinavian peers and changed course, but those Americans didn’t go “OK, my idea was tested and failed.”

Almost every single person who was/is attacking the public health community from 2020-2022 got every single prediction wrong, and got it wrong directionally in a way that would have cost actual human lives by the tens/hundreds of thousands. And now those people are in charge of our federal agencies.

Listen to experts like @autismspeaks.org:
"Scientists have conducted extensive research all over the world over the last 2 decades to examine the link between childhood vaccinations & autism. The result of this research is clear: vaccines do not cause autism."

Vaccines do not cause autism. It is possible that the timing of an autism diagnosis or onset of autism symptoms might coincide with the recommended vaccine schedule for children, but this is a coincidence, not a cause.
Vaccines and autism

Scientists have conducted extensive research all over the world over the last two decades to examine the link between childhood vaccinations and autism. The result of this research is clear: vaccines do not cause autism.

Additionally, vaccination can protect children from many preventable diseases like measles. Learn more about vaccine safety.

There are many causes of autism. Learn about the factors that increase the risk of ASD and shape the type of autism that a child will develop.

As I approach an age when my own immune system starts to weaken, great to know there will be resurgences of COMPLETELY PREVENTABLE DISEASES to take me out.

Noem's complaints underscore why news outlets can't settle frivolous lawsuits.

Now, the door is wide open for government officials to question every editing decision news outlets make, whether to shorten an interview for time or to not air lies and nonsense.

Kennedy might have prospered had he simply been content to continue slapping a MAHA coat of paint on the good work of the government’s actual scientists. Instead, he seems determined to rip the engine out while the car is hurtling down the interstate.

How many past presidents have had a bad jobs report (since they existed) without firing the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics? I'm guessing, all of them?

Breaking news: President Trump said he fired the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics after the agency revised May and June jobs data that cast doubt on the strength of the labor market.

He called for “someone much more competent” to take over.

Very sad. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting will shut down. And we're already seeing major layoffs at multiple local public media stations around the country, cutting off vital local news.
phillewis.bsky.social
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is shutting down operations after loss of federal funding:
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) announced today that it will begin an orderly wind-down of its operations following the passage of a federal rescissions package and the release of the Senate Appropriations Committee’s FY 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-H) appropriations bill, which excludes funding for CPB for the first time in more than five decades.

For nearly 60 years, CPB has carried out its Congressional mission to build and sustain a trusted public media system that informs, educates, and serves communities across the country. Through partnerships with local stations and producers, CPB has supported educational content, locally relevant journalism, emergency communications, cultural programming, and essential services for Americans in every community.

“Despite the extraordinary efforts of millions of Americans who called, wrote, and petitioned Congress to preserve federal funding for CPB, we now face the difficult reality of closing our operations,” said CPB President and CEO Patricia Harrison. “CPB remains committed to fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities and supporting our partners through this transition with transparency and care.”
