Sometimes there'll be a joke written by someone who's been dead for tens, hundreds of years & i'll stop and think about another human reaching through time to make another human laugh, long after they're gone, and it's so beautiful it makes me well up.

In her life, Marilyn Monroe was exploited and abused by so many men.
Studio executives, so many people.
After she died, men continued to exploit her for their pleasure: trying to get themselves buried near/above her.
What your writer did here is obscene, nonconsensual and makes me feel slightly ill
jenniferbrozek.bsky.social
It was absolutely your fault. I was talking about the power of fiction and how, sometimes, the opening line can make or break a book. In your case, it was perfect.

We talked about language drift and I recommended to @shaunduke.net that he have you on the @skiffyandfanty.com to discuss how slang is created and how an author might create slang for their worlds. :D

A salute from our Chair as we teeter on the precipice of #CanCon2025!

See you all soon!

(Except Evan. He'll be in the cave.)

We are getting close to @canconsffh.bsky.social and I am taking a moment to say that I have the best crew anyone could ever ask for. Ever. Lemme go on for a bit. You need to know how amazing they are, and they deserve it to be seen.

Speaking of sharing the love... @mariebilodeau.bsky.social is awesome and I'm sad I'm missing Can-Con this year and its awesome crew.

And @stephenblackmoore.com who started the whole thing... (I think. I don't remember...I talked a lot about good things in this podcast.)

Don't be afraid to share the love. That's how we win.

This, btw, is a huge compliment. They have deemed you worthy of trust...enough to sleep in your presence. :D

Yes, please! I didn't make it up. I'm pretty sure I heard it from a YT from a librarian. :D

I'm usually not a fan of spiders, but this weaver themed ancient tome book box is the exception. I hand painted this in several different shades of blue, with an iridescent sheen. And this is the only book box with gilded pages!

thebrokencircle.etsy...
An ancient tome book box with a spider theme! I hate spiders but for some reason I like this one. It features a stylized spider in the midst of a web. The body is made of a sparkle blue/black filament sealed with high gloss. This shows how the pages slide up to reveal a box inside. Unlike most of my books, the sides of these ones are gilded! Sprayed edges, anyone?

I'm pretty sure at this point you have a cat. One that no one is admitting is your cat.

There is a beautiful rule I follow now. 100-my age= Page X. If I'm not enjoying the book by Page X, put it down and walk away. Life is too short to read books that you don't click with.
jenniferbrozek.bsky.social
I just need something light and comforting right now. I remember grabbing the book on @seananmcguire.bsky.social's recommendation. I put it down because of reasons. I'm glad I picked it up again.

Shifted from reading ALTERED CARBON (because it was depressing me so much) to LEGENDS & LATTES and I'm a lot happier.
(I'm guessing I put down ALTERED CARBON the first time because it depressed me.)

Please don't *ask* HWA members to put your work on the Recommended Reading list. You can let them know it exists, that you appreciate their consideration, where to find it. The page I linked to has details about how to do this. But asking / begging / bargaining for recs is against the rules.
pronouncedlahra.bsky.social
HWA folks! Have you recommended others' work to the Recommended Reading list for the Bram Stoker Awards? Horror writers, have you submitted your own work to the juries? Here's how! You can even click through to the full rules if you're intrepid! www.thebramstokerawards.com/submissions/

You and me both.

I've met lifelong friends on social media. People who are basically family now.

My career as a writer only happened because of social media. The number of readers I've talked to on here have made decades of fighting worth it.

Scam alert: there's an IngramSpark impersonator at ingramsparkbookpublishers dot com. Part of a wave of publishing/ghostwriting scams from Pakistan that hijack authors looking to self-publish--they often "borrow" well-known publisher names but this one also "borrows" the real IngramSpark's logo
Screenshot of IngramSpark impersonator's contact form, with chat window where scammer sales rep "Travis Clark" claims that "We are Ingram Spark's hands-on services department. You will be able to find our information here: https://www.ingramsparkbookpublishers.com/
