I think Derrida should have left cats out of it.

Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat

I hate it. I think I’ll have to leave. It’s so utterly soulless & however many times you turn off notifications, somehow they still send emails you can’t care about.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

What’s so depressing about these kinds of proclamations is the lack of fact accuracy. At my uni, graduate outcomes for English students are far better than those doing economics, for example.

Try to take up service roles you enjoy or that will challenge you in new ways, which helps it be less onerous — be strategic about how it will contribute to your career. Carve out time for writing where you do nothing but research on that day. You don’t need to reply to most emails right away.

1/ I'm excited to share that Franz Knappik’s and my Cambridge Element on Hegel and Colonialism is finally out – open access below! We trace how Hegel defends European colonial rule, including transatlantic slavery, and how that defence runs through his entire philosophical system.

This is a disaster for Newham, where I live, & a disgrace under Labour.

This is a lie.

There are many criticisms you might sensibly and truthfully make of the Sentencing Council and the Sentencing Guidelines. I’ve been making them for years.

But this is an outright lie. Pure fabrication. A fraud on the public.

All UK HE news talks of contraction. Bronze TEF providers will be defunded. Research funding is to be more "targeted". Total continuation of the Conservatives' vision for HE, under Labour.

That three major British newspapers jumped on the poorly sourced (ATF to Steven Crowder to WSJ) line about the bullets having ‘trans’ symbols (actually a, wait for it, Helldivers 2 code) is such a tell on what they really care about. They really need to apologise (they won’t)

I disagree profoundly with the view that all research in universities should be externally funded. I'm also curious about why such a view needs to be expounded in the most provocative and insulting terms, rather than presented e.g. as dry financial pragmatism -what is the point of the obnoxiousness?
