You'd still need a dedicated 2D card, but wow, the Voodoo 2 was such a step-up from the 3DFX Voodoo.
I had a Voodoo Banshee, released late in 1998, which was a 2D/3D hybrid from 3DFX and successor to the abysmal Voodoo Rush.

It’s always interesting to watch someone speak, agree with all of it, and also understand that neither one of us would probably share a meal due to the unspoken differences that are more like chasms. It's interesting how very similar views can come to very different conclusions.
