Brown University accepted nearly equal numbers of male and female students, but got almost twice as many female applicants. That math meant it was easier for men to get in.

The recession is coming, folks: My wife bought us off-brand dyer sheets. No more pictures of seascapes or teddy bear mascots and rainbows on the box. It’s just a black & white drawing of a man alone in a room, sitting at a table with a Bible and a gun.

Buy books. But not from Amazon. Buy them from Bookshop.org, the independent site. This move by Amazon is shameful.

Trump has ordered the US government to move forward with plans to mine the ocean floor an area nearly every other country considers off-limits to industrial exploitation. His executive order sidesteps a decades-old international treaty ratified by every major coastal nation except the United States.

When you're paying 20% more for your chamomile tea next week because of the non-legislative tariff decrees it would be a good time to reflect on the "no taxation with representation" foundation of our country on the eve of our 2026 sesquicentennial.

for the one millionth time, the dept of education just monitors access to education. civil rights, title ix, disabilities, making sure everybody gets a fair opportunity.

this is not about curriculum. states design those standards. this is an attack on the idea of fairness in education.
if a senile old man can wave his little marker and say the department of education is gone we don’t really live in anything remotely like a democracy do we

Banning books about the "other" further dehumanizes the "other" and promotes fear and intolerance. The books we read about different people and cultures make us grounded, humble, and can lead to a greater sense of connection and inner peace.

I'm halfway through this allegory about the devil and his cronies making fools out of the elite class in Soviet Russia. Even though Stalin liked Bulgakov and kept him out of the gulag, this novel wasn't published until both of them kicked the bucket. There's also a large cat who is kind of a dick.

Hard disagree. I talked to hundreds and hundreds of swing voters and their issue w Kamala was they thought she was a San Francisco progressive due to the way she ran her 2019 primary. That footage existed guys! And it was used against her to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.
That's why there's an aggressive effort now to blame "identity politics," it's a retcon because Harris ran exactly the campaign centrists wanted, catering to conservatives, never criticizing Netanyahu, never blaming billionaires or big corporations, the works—just to lose to Old Man Yells at Cloud.
I agree on the centrist point and frankly there are a lot of people out there who are just saying what they need to say to cover their ass and cash a check. It sucks.

The Cheney thing is a clear example of a bad idea that the people who pushed it won’t take responsibility for. They need to
