Starting this thread to catalog the media I've watched/played/read/listened to for 2025. I used to do this for movies and TV shows back at The Bad Place, so now I'd like to just put everything under one thread. Let's see how things turn out.

#Jee2025 so it's easy for me to find.

AI still can’t do this

Honestly, the work of ONE might be one of THE most powerful counters to AI boosterism bullshit.

This guy is one of the more popular modern comic artists, he has millions of people following his stories. And he did it with art that looks like THAT.

I spoke to a dozen professional concept artists working in games about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs easier, even if it's just used in "very early ideation stages."

Zero said "yes." Most said it made their job harder.

I learnt a lot about concept artists. You should too!
We spoke to a dozen professional concept artists who are currently or have previously worked in game development about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs any easier.

Zero said it did. Most said it made things harder.

Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder
“The ‘early ideation stages’, when worlds are being fleshed out by writers and artists, are literally crucial to the development of a game’s vision,” said one artist.

NEW: For the last seven weeks, Naughty Dog has enacted mandatory overtime for staff to finish an internal demo of their next game, Intergalactic. The game won't be out until 2027, leaving some staff wondering: If they're crunching now, what will next year be like? www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Funny animal videos no longer being trustworthy just fucking sucks all around. I love the wonder of animal behavior and what it says about the experience of being alive. It's because it happened in reality that it's so fun. It's not fun if it was just made up. There's no wonder there.

I was very excited to watch The Resurrected because Lee Sinje and Shu Qi both starred in the first and second The Eye movies, released in the early 2000s. They were some of the best Asian horror films, and them uniting all these years later felt like a massive, world-shaking event.

The funniest thing about The Resurrected is that the series is primarily set in a fictional Southeast Asian city called Bengkha, which is definitely Bangkok, and with Thai being the written language and spoken among the locals. But for some reason, all the cops speak Malay!

Recalled that back when Zootopia was first out, there were these videos featuring co-director Byron Howard drawing Nick and Judy, and it was nice how he briefly talked through his process and embraced imperfections.

Sad to see the direction Disney is taking with the OpenAI nonsense.

You need to read this Roger Ebert review of Looney Tunes: Back in Action. It is never mentioned when people do lists of the best of Roger, but I think it should be, if only for the incredible tangent he goes on. I think the movie is underrated as well. www.rogerebert.com/reviews/loon...

Tokyo Godfathers is one of the best films of this century. A key reason is that it portrays Tokyo with an almost overwhelming level of care and detail.

It just felt to me like Disney saw those ads where people AI-generated a busty Rapunzel and thought "we need to get in on that big time".

How about everyone cancel their subscriptions like they did when Kimmel was removed from his late night show? It would probably make a difference like last time.

A screening of In the Mood For Love at the rundown Rex Theatre just as they were converting it into a culture hub. It was raining, there was a visible hole on a wall, and we sat on weaver mats on the floor. Everyone was enraptured. It was the perfect mood for the film
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.
