I never did an intro so...

Hi! I'm a software designer based in SF. I've been around the block a few times and you've probably used some of my work at Pinterest, Figma, and most recently Slack.

Right now I spend my time working on @maitsu.co, an app for building habits and hobbies with friends.

this man does not like he should be running a country. he should be running bingo at the recreation center. you've done more than enough to ruin our country, turtle man. go home.
@sunrisemvmt.bsky.social activists asked Mitch McConnell to take a stand and he immediately fell to the floor.

10/10. No notes.

Chris Murphy: "This is a country that's falling apart because Trump is in the middle of an authoritarian takeover. We're not on the verge of an authoritarian takeover. We're in the middle of it ... I have no moral obligation to vote for a budget that literally funds the destruction of our democracy"

Joe Gebbia is the billionaire co-founder of AirBnB, a close friend of Elon Musk, and worked to gut the federal government with DOGE.

And he just gave the single largest donation to Cuomo’s super PAC since the primary.

She gets all the flowers. I mean ALL of them. If we see her, we immediately have to give her flowers.
yeah messages has actually been around since i was there (but the tail end). i think that back then it was kind of nice. i would have turned this off way before place pins though (rip)
i'm doing everything i can to not think about it
Realizing I could spend 2 hours laying on the couch scrolling reels, not doing anything productive, not learning anything, or even feeling good about myself was the prime motivator for dumping it.

If I'm going to waste time, there are so many better ways I can do it that actually are enjoyable.
With Instagram, I set pretty aggressive app limits (15m/day) until I felt like I wasn't getting anything out of it anymore, then deleted the app wholesale. I imagine TikTok could work with a similar method.

You need willpower though, since your phone can't quit TikTok or IG, only you can.

AOC: And they are able to radicalize a generation of young boys in particular, away from healthy masculinity and into an insecure masculinity that requires the domination of others who are poorer, browner, darker, or a different gender than them.
Thanks! You won't have wifi with just this, so keep that in mind. I have two U7-Pro-XGS, one U7-IW and one U6-Lite (probably to be replaced soon). You don't want too many APs and I definitely have too many but my house is weird.
All of my server stuff is handled by an M4 Mac mini (with a 10Gbe connection) or my old gaming PC (LLM experiments and game servers)
- Unifi Dream Machine (router, outdated)
- USW-Aggregation (10Gbe switch)
- USW-Pro-24-PoE (1Gbe switch for everything else with Power over Ethernet)
- UNVR (storage for security cameras)
- UNAS-Pro-8 (new NAS)
- APC 3U UPS Backup Battery

Everything else is just for passing cables to the front
(I guess as an aside, their approved Synology-branded drives were just white-label versions of other drives and are like ~10% more expensive than the normal, not-approved version of the drive)
Vendor locking is not a _bad_ feature, and is actually what enterprise wants. However, they tried to force it on everyone in a way that didn't inspire confidence so many prosumers jumped ship.

If your NAS is working fine, it will continue to, and I wouldn't worry about it.
This would be bad because if your hardware fails and you need to migrate to new hardware, you'd theoretically have to buy new Synology drives.

They said that locking would only apply to _new_ volumes... but they also said they wouldn't vendor-lock drives, so it begs the question of "for how long?"
Earlier this year, they announced they would be vendor-locking HDDs and only approved drives would work in 2025 and newer products, which their primarily prosumer customer base did not take very kindly to. They had to walk it back but it was too little too late.
Yeah I wish they made rack cabinets in-between 12U and 42U. I'd probably migrate for 20-25U away from the StarTech.com one (but I do like my jerry-rigged wood top)

The tool-less mini rack is cute but I would be constantly terrified of running out of space.
before and after

swapped 1U shelf and brush panel to Unifi's because silver

migrating from a Synology NAS to Unifi's new Pro NAS 8 because Synology is deeply dumb and torched their brand trust

i guess i double my storage as a result (going from eight 12TB drives to 24TB)

my back hurts a lot
My 12U server earlier this year. The last “upgrade” was finally mounting the wooden panel onto the top with fasteners My 12U server, now. We’re mid-migration; the Synology RS1221+ will eventually be removed and sold.

Fun fact: The animator who worked on this sequence, Hiroyuki Okiura, is often accused of rotoscoping. Not even remotely the case, as I understand.

Please watch Cowboy Bebop: Knocking on Heaven's Door. It's one of the most beautiful things ever made by people. Also... It's a Halloween movie!
