#IndieAuthors I write about superheroes and prophecies and assassins and corrupt billionaires getting what they deserve. Oh, and my books are queer as hell. 👇
How to use fiction to process existential dread. The power of story to help authors and readers alike deal with the things about life and society they are powerless to actually change.
Okay #WritingCommunity...

You've recruited as a teacher at a new writing school. You get to choose a custom class to teach.

What are you teaching?

Mine? How to develop interesting quirky characters that readers will love.
Baseball owners who refuse to invest in player payroll and even ✨️attempt✨️ to be competitive bother me far more than the teams that seemingly throw money at every good player available. We need a salary floor more than we need a cap.

"Why are your books so violent?"

Because I'm tired of living in a world where the wicked are allowed to get away with their cruelty, and this is the only way to enact proper punishment without ending up, you know, in prison.
I've long thought conservative projection was little more than an acknowledgement that they behave that way, so of course everyone else does, right?

...Right?
There's a lot of really shitty things going on right now, and I don't know what to do about... well, just about all of them. But being alive to watch Shohei Ohtani play baseball is just... I don't care what team you root for, you have to admit it's ungodly special what he's doing.
#NASCAR Charging $60 for a video game where you don't even get a physical copy, on machines that are currently north of $500, should be criminal. Especially with DLC and "season packs" that are, on day one, a combined $45.

This is why I've given up on gaming, outside of the classics.
I'm over policing Democrats' behavior when we're just letting Republicans get away with anything and everything. If you have a problem with that, you know where the goddamn block button is.
Besides, who among us ✨️hasn't✨️ texted someone in private to bitch about fucked-up co-workers? The Second Amendment, fuck-your-feelings crowd is awfully sensitive sometimes...
This thing in Virginia where Republicans are running on "ZOMG Jay Jones said mean things about us in text messages!!1!11!" when they've said and done far, far worse, in public and private, for decades, is just further proof that in America, consequences are only for liberals and the marginalized.
ADULTING WIN: I've figured out a way to reliably take my blood pressure and cholesterol pills!

I'm a real adult now!
Hard pill to swallow:

All of them. Can we get more liquids and injectables, please?
I'm a natural pantser. Planning feels too much like paint by numbers for me, makes writing less... magical, I guess?

BUT!

Check out the book Take Off Your Pants! by @thelibbiegrant.bsky.social -- it lays out an outlining method that works well for pantsers. #WritingCommunity
Okay #WritingCommunity

Planners and Pantsers. Have you ever tried the opposite approach? Planners, have you ever just writtem with no plan? What happened. Pantsers, have you ever tried outlining? What happened?

Was there anything you kept from this experiment.

I switched from pantser to planner.
A grave tragedy has occurred this morning.

I spilled my coffee. 😫

I'd love for you to read my Shirley Jackson Award-nominated gothic fiction book during the Halloween season.

#WeeknightWriters When I realize (and so do they) that character development isn't a linear thing. What looks like regression is often just as relatable as whatever change they're trying to make in the first place.
Q3: What aspects of character development do you enjoy most? What goes into making a character? #WeeknightWriters
I used to travel for work, and spend a lot of time in hotels for work, and I still think hotels = sex.
I've been at this for 10 years, and it still gets really disheartening. Like shouting at the void, and I'm often faced with whether it's still worth it (it is, but the question won't go away).
I grew up on Jim Lee's X-Men, and when I still fashioned myself as a comic book artist, I tried to emulate his style. I'm glad to hear him stand up for creativity like this, even as he now sits as an exec.
I love how utterly ridiculous ICE looks here. I mean, they look ridiculous on their own, but meeting them with absurdity and humor just amplifies their ineptitude and makes it harder to fear them.

This is one thing that pisses me off about the left (even though I'm on the left): not all ignorance is malevolent. Not all silence is complicity. Too many of us are just trying to get through the damn day to even think of speaking out or fighting back. We're exhausted.
Reason No. 4,328 why I could never run for office: The first time a Republican runs an attack ad on me, lying outright or misrepresenting something I said/did, they'd get smacked with a defamation lawsuit. The candidate, the PAC, the state party, the national party. And any news outlet that airs it.
