“…once an autocracy gains power, it will come for many of the people who quite rationally tried to safeguard themselves and their businesses.” The Chilling Consequences of Going Along With Trump www.nytimes.com/2025/02/08/o...

The voluntarily surrender of the public’s power is how autocracies are built.

I love Babylon 5! I just can’t figure out how to join the Rangers.
This is frightening. All Americans deserve #cleanair #safefood #cleanwater & #land that isn’t a toxic waste dump. Historically speaking, major #corporations have repeatedly demonstrated that they cannot be trusted without supervision & legislation to protect the environment #environmentalprotection
I’m glad they appreciate you. They should. Have you mentioned your desire for more content in the sermons at a staff meeting or to the Rector directly? Might help. Sometimes Rectors don’t realize how much support they have when all they hear are complaints about being political.
Each Episcopal parish & rector has their own…quirks. In all of the discussions about Bishop Budde’s homily, one thing I haven’t heard addressed is speaking truth to power when the power is the people in the pews whose financial support pays the priest and the bills.
I’d think “do no be afraid” and calling disciples (the message of Sunday’s Gospel reading which is Luke 5:1-11) would be a great fit for this and everything else that’s going on right now but then I’m not a priest.
Today’s #ForwardDaybyDay essay touches on imagining what is possible (even if we think it isn’t). As hard as it may be right now, these are the moments when we need to reflect most on what we can do & offering what we have to each other & our neighbors. prayer.forwardmovement.org/fdd/2025-2-4

“The success of the American burying beetle is a story about #cooperation and partnership. It involved private landowners, state and federal agencies, and conservation groups with one goal in mind: the health of the ecosystem.” #environment #nebraska www.thecooldown.com/outdoors/ame...
Scientists stunned by unexpected recovery in Nebraska: 'The holy grail ...'
The American burying beetle has made a stunning recovery. New research has provided insight into this near-extinct species.

Not just Young. All of #NE ‘s Senators & Congresspersons signed on (and Smith was one of those leading the letter) Can’t wait to see/hear what they do now. #Nebraska #corn
Both of these are great threads! #problemsolving #mutualaid #scalable
This is such a great thread.

Let me add that there is nothing that you, an individual, can do, that will scale because you are one person. The people arguing that you should only do things that “scale” are justifying not doing anything.
Thanks for sharing this. I needed to hear someone else saying it, too.

We also need to take care not to fall into the same trap.
Ah, lovely. More attempts at personal insults.
I’m (re)reading If God Still Breathes, Why Can’t I? & one of Angela Parker’s Questions for Consideration is about reading Scripture & where in the story you body would be. Both your essay & Bishop Budde’s sermon have me contemplating that. I’m not sure I always like my answer.
This is wonderful! Thank you for sharing.
So the only opinions you want to hear are your own/those that agree with you and anyone saying anything else gets a personal attack. Got it. Reminds me of someone else 🤔 and I hope it doesn’t work for either of you. Have a nice day.
I’ve cast on this hat a half dozen times. Ordinarily, I’d say that a sign I’m not supposed to be #knitting it right now. Problem is no other yarn or pattern is calling to me. Until something does, I suppose I’ll keep hitting my head against this double-knit object. 🤷🏻
And that is the problem. Either everyone has a right or no one really does. I prefer the former. How about you?
We don’t protect the rights we hold dear by taking those exact rights away from others. The people who ban books, or in this case social media platforms, are rarely on the right side of history.
