I think this is a very clear example of the deep underlying problem with modern policing and why anyone who truly objectively looks at these situations as a whole ends up becoming an abolitionist. You cannot reform a system dependent on inequalities and hierarchies of violence.

Despite their better approach, the situation still devolves into them teasing, beating, and stripping naked the "suspect". Note that the alleged weapon is not visible at any point in the video. Why wouldn't he fight back? From his perspective, he's essentially getting jumped for using the bathroom!

They take the exact opposite approach to the one PPB took during the murder of Robert Delgado back in 2021. Back then, responding officers opted to turn the situation into an armed standoff and started barking orders from dozens of meters away before even confirming a weapon was present. But even

And like, here's the thing- Watching this latest video, it's very clear that there's no malicious intent from the officers, at least nothing overt or intentionally cruel. Someone tells them there's a guy with a weapon menacing families in the park, and so they do their best to find the person.

Who would have guessed that people who chose to become cops AFTER a national reckoning with the inherently racist and violent nature of the job would then proceed to be racist and violent?
It's almost like Ted Wheeler and Rene González knew what they were doing by recruiting so heavily post-2020.

I mean they're still targeting mainly protestors, and I doubt Nathan Vazquez will prosecute any of the chuds they've arrested. But just for context, PPB used to let these guys shoot live ammo at us

It's almost unbelievable to see Portland Police do something other than enable racists and Nazis. Probably the first time in over a decade I've seen them respond adequately to far-right violence. Absolutely unprecedented. They must REALLY care about their image right now.

Portland police arrested a right-wing agitator at the ICE facility. Protesters say this man punched a woman in the face on video. I’ll update if I see the video, but it seems very likely given how fast PPB responded and what everyone is saying.

Sure, but it was mostly because our local media and government did everything they could to stoke those fears and misinterpret actions. Thought they could use fear to bend Portland to their will. Fucking idiots poured millions of $ into "Portland is awful" and then wondered why people are scared.
