I suppose it's about time I make an introductory thread.

Hi, I'm Jason. I came over from the other site when Blue Sky was still invite only, roughly a couple months before that ended, IIRC.

I'm here to mostly have light hearted friendly fun with others.

So, now they're SELLING identity fraud on a major social media platform. . . I guess getting sued is just the start of what could go wrong, for them. I hope they go bankrupt from this obviously criminal behavior.
Fuck me running. Now I have to login periodically to prevent the fucking squatters from nabbing mine. (They already create similar-named accounts and post vile crap from them.)

Good point. The one I am supposed to be on was operationally functional in IAR. We could submit critiques and went to Read phase as usual. Please do this if you can, folks. It may help to speed the recovery once the gov is funded again.
If you are serving on NIH study sections that have been cancelled, PLEASE continue to work on your reviews. NIH will do everything their power to ensure the meetings happen eventually, and the more prepared you are when those meetings are rescheduled, the better.
Welp. Thanks to the Republican gov shutdown I have a bunch of hours back in my week due to a NIH study section not meeting.

These poor applicants. They will be waiting week by week for government to reopen and to find out what will happen to their grant application.

"purity tests" "circular firing squad" "the left eat their own" are such bullshit phrases.

people disagree on politics! that's how it works.

deal with it instead of whining about marginalized people correctly pointing out that certain "compromises" only strengthens fascism
And here I was going to ask you to cite which sight was standing in for site.

Dear Never Trump ppl,

You can dunk on him and his ilk without being ableist.

This applies to anyone you don’t like.
I'd buy one if it were on doordash
I got a color reference book in today: Warner's Nomenclature of Colors, adapted to Zoology, Biology, Chemistry, Mineralogy, Anatomy and the Arts by P Syme. It has a large number of examples, with how you mix the precise color. I rather like it.
Given when they were made, this doesn't surprise me. 😆
Also, I had a typo in the second title's name. It's actually "The Giant Gila Monster" 😆
I got distracted, finally opened it. It has BOTH black and white and colorized versions. So clearly I'll be putting all 4 on my server. 😆
A few weeks ago I ordered a bunch of DVDs. One was a random set of cheese Sci-Fi/Horror flics. I finally looked at some of the titles. This pair had me in stitches: "The Killer Shrews" and "The Gila Monster".

I expect these to be MST3K/RiffTraxx worthy.
That's such a weird accusation to levy against a person that uses multiple social media sites. It's a very ordinary want. (Who wants to retype everything? Who wants to open multiple apps? I know I don't.)
I had to add more gum arabic and it's a titch lighter than I wanted. BUT, since I didn't enter into it thinking I'd get this close on the first try, this is a qualified success. YAY! (Next time I'll do more smolder-rinse cycles)
It's not fully cooled yet, but the color is roughly what I hoped for. So this is very likely a success on the first try! YAY!

A few years after I bought "Fake Sound of Progress" he was arrested. I didn't touch that album more than once every couple years, feeling guilty after each time. Yesterday was the first time I hadn't felt guilty about that. I avoided the news yesterday tho, so good timing on my part.
That took a bit longer than expected.

2. I repeatedly filter the larger particles out.

3. Once filtering is done, reduce the volume (as in cooking reduction via boiling.)

4. Add Gum Arabic and a single clove to the vial.

5. Decant the final liquid.

6. Let cool, then add more Gum Arabic, if needed.

As luck would have it, it uses soot. Traditionally beechwood is used. But the incense leaves its own soot. So, I figured I'd try it, with some process modification.
1. I perform several washes of water over the herbs at various points in the slow combustion process.

For years, I've ushered in autumn and winter by doing an ad-hoc incense with various spices, heated on a burner on my stovetop. It's a lovely aroma.

Yesterday I ran across the name of a medieval ink color, and subsequent recipes -- Bistre.

I love the almost poetic speech Prof. Birack gives at the start of Prince of Darkness. I wouldn't mind having that on a poster.

My latest is the story of how my community has rallied to protect and defend our neighbors in recent days, as ICE has targeted the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago. "This is not a story about a moment of victory, but a moment of being reminded of our power."
They Came for Our Neighbors. We Showed Up.
Before long, there were dozens, and then hundreds of people in the streets, watching and responding.
