Yes, 'Marxist Marmite' is a mordant satire featuring Pol Pot, Maduro's Venezuela, a beardy UK politician who resembles a folk purist - the type who sticks a finger in their ear while singing in a nasal voice - & the referenda of 1975 & 2016. Might not win me friends! 😅

😅 One of the naans or papadums with chutney, for sure. I'm vegetarian, & while I have nothing against mushrooms, I don't like them. Same goes for raw onion. And aubergines. 😅 I have a couple of signature curry dishes I make from scratch once or twice a week.

Simple Pleasures

The wind frets at the pebbles,
salt spray burns my face.
The kite jerks like a stubborn gull,
its red plastic heart flapping,
tail tangled, untamed.
Thin bamboo bones creak
as it strains for sky—
a sailboat chasing invisible tides.
I laugh, barefoot, skirt & hair whipping,
each tug of string a pulse returning—
old hands, yes,
but the girl is still flying.

I'm glad you're airing this piece again, David. It's richly evocative. While I was raised on colour TV, portable sets were invariably monochrome & I was the last generation to grow up with analogue MW/LW radio. 🏆🌠

Perfectly captures lapwingness. I have fond memories of seeing them often around the village where I spent part of my childhood. I occasionally spot them around where I live now. 🙏🏆
