Gregg Popovich had a remarkable coaching career. But what has always impressed me most is the courage of his convictions. This is a man unafraid to speak truth to power — an increasingly rare thing in this world.

Jamie Dimon with a clear message to elected officials in Philadelphia. If you’re ok with the status quo, leave things as is. If you want to grow the economy and attract businesses, change the unfriendly business tax structure.

Center City District is the gift that keeps on giving.

Incredible team there, they really maximize their impact and continually prove naysayers wrong, finding ways to incrementally improve the city, as others just throw up their hands.

SEPTA really needs to up their pay to get quality candidates. This is a $130k+/yr role and the posted salary range is $80-100k.

Really sad to see Philadelphia’s oligarch going through tough times like this. He might have to eat out less this year. Maybe start flying commercial again.

Would be a lot of prime real estate going back on the tax rolls.

A lot of parking lots that could become housing.

Menswear Guy is the gift that keeps on giving
I want to give credit to my editors, who asked me to write 2,000 words on why Andrew Tate wears such tight pants. I submitted 3,700. They asked if I really needed to start with a story about the industrial revolution and I said "yes, absolutely don't cut."

Heads up, before you book those cheap flights from Wilmington DE, be mindful of what Avelo is supporting
Most of the time, startup airline Avelo provides low-fare service from places like Connecticut, California and Florida. Starting next month, Avelo is slated to begin flights for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which the company says is critical to its financial future.

China’s High Speed Rail overlaid on the US

I, for one, thought we were done rolling over and letting China win on the world stage. We used to build hard things in America, but apparently now we just leave that up to the Chinese.

But local politicians have praised having an economy weighted heavily on Eds and Meds…which they only did because they didn't want to fight for a business tax structure that doesn't scare companies away.

I wasn't trying to win any photography awards with this one, but notice how Silk City and The Carson compliment each other.

We can have larger buildings next to smaller buildings.

“Out of scale for the neighborhood” is a made up excuse peddled by historical commission types for no good reason.

It is crazy that an AHL team averaged 11,800+ per night across the parking lot from their NHL team.

I went to tons of games those two years at the Spectrum. As a 2nd grader, I was in awe at the psychotic 90s hockey fans.

After thinking about it more, if MontCo has their own $3 toll, that could support another $2B bond.

My farfetched proposal:

Tunnel and burry I-76 five miles from Conshohocken State Rd to Belmont Ave.

This would cost about $2-3B.

I'm sure Gladwynne residents would support this. /s
SEPTA is currently reporting a $5.1B state of good repair capital defecit.

I was just considering the Philly section of 76 for this back of the napkin calc, but there could be additional tolls for the MontCo section of 76, with that revenue going to SEPTA infrastructure there.

[163k vehicles per day] x 365 x [$3 avg toll per vehicle] x [10% reduction in traffic] = $160mm/year in new revenue

This could support a $2 Billion, 30-year maturity municipal bond (1.5x DSCR, 4.5% interest rate).

$2B for capital expenses would go a long way in upgrading SEPTA.
The success of congestion pricing in New York should open lawmakers' eyes to what was once considered impossible—tolling the Schuylkill Expressway.

In a perfect Philadelphia, our taxpayer funded police and prosecutors would work efficiently to arrest and penalize the theft/damage of property.

Instead, Indego has to hire private investigators to keep their replacement costs from getting out of control.

Indego bike theft posed an ‘existential’ crisis. The solution: Repo men.
The bikeshare program lost at least 550 bikes, worth more than $1.3 million, in three years.

First time commuting home from Conshy on my single speed. Let it rip during a few stretches.

About the same time door to door as commuting via Regional Rail. Faster than driving during Tuesday rush hour.

Need to invest more in our trail network!

Reading this article, some paragraphs could have been used to describe Philadelphia’s oligarchy, specificly Brian Roberts.

Nothing good comes from companies having outsized power in a city/region.
