I've been an active member of a few decent IRL communities through my life so I'm not done yapping.

Communities contain members who sometimes irritate you, or who make mistakes. Functional communities allow these members to make mistakes & apologize. They educate instead of harass.

Especially back then, I was in undergrad. Almost transferred to Evergreen since they had a make-your-own-major program & I could have wiggled my way into ecology field-work jobs without starting undergrad over. But the higher out-of-state tuition kept me on the east coast.

I visited there & Olympia once, & I was shocked by how respectful the drivers were of my presence as a pedestrian. Opposite of east coast drivers. The Fremont Troll was also a highlight.

Sorry about all the car talk. Driving is a new thing to me. I was a furious and frustrated pedestrian, passenger seat queen, public transit user, and Lyft frequenter until Dev wisely pressured me out of my solitary WFH hell & gifted me his old car. That + treating my anxiety/ ADHD= I drive now!

Oh yeah New Yorker Urbanist Ivy of 10+ years ago had SO many shrinking victims to choose from on their subway commute. So inconsiderate. Plus if you shrink them, so much more space for everyone else!
