Scientific equipment builder. Industrial Design. Working prototypes. Experimental set up design/build. I build from your plans, collaboration, napkin sketches. Interpretive dance. Also art, fun projects, dogs.
Some cool #3dprint tech being developed to print #biofibers. The lab I work in gets a brief mention @fudgelab.bsky.social as collaborators.

New 3D printing technique replicates nature's delicate fibers with precision
Researchers have been trying to find new ways to produce and replicate the various useful features observed in nature. Fine hairs and fibers, which are ubiquitous in nature, are useful for various app...

So anyone with a Tesla interested in using its electric components in electrifying a classic car? Surely it must be somewhat embarrassing to drive a Tesla now?

Back on the #bridgeport #mill today facing a #wood #chopsaw fence. A few years ago had some bad kickback on a cut that bent the fence. #machining #metalwork #verticalmill

Made this #thermalcamera from components and sample code from @adafruit.com and @pimoroni.com. #lasercut acrylic cases for the #pibadge and Pimoroni thermal camera board. #locline for the adjustable camera neck. #electronics #arduino #developmentboard #soldering #stem #steam #circuitpython #python

I can't believe this was 5 years ago! This was my first contract job at #Chapmanuniversity for @fudgelab.bsky.social. I worked on a #BRUV Baited Remote Underwater Video system. My contribution was the frame. Worked way better than the previous system which flipped over a lot.

Here's an old project I did for the house. I made a #pergola. #steel tubing I used steel darkening #patina and a clear coat. Parts bolt together.

This #flowtank is almost entirely #acrylic. I used to make these out of PVC pipe fittings with just the working section from acrylic. The motor is a smooth DC with integrated power supply for 110V and 220V operation. available here: www.ironvines.net/scientific-e...

I made this #saltwater #tank system for Lindsay Waldrop's #marinelab at #ChapmanUniversity. We thought 316L stainless frame would do fine with the salt water but it did start corroding on the surface. Best solution was to #powdercoat. Lindsay choose the loudest pink we could find "Telemagenta"

I have a throwback here, it bridges my #design education with #metalfabrication. A #Wassily #chair #reupholstered with used black double front #Carhart work pants. I still have a panels in storage but the chair frame has since be scrapped.

I make this #couettetaylor flow demo device. It uses #cornsyrup and dye to show the properties of Couette Taylor flow for #classroom #demonstrations of #fluiddynamics for #lowreynolds #fluid #flow it can be ordered here: www.ironvines.net/scientific-e.... I'm including syringes of pre dyed syrup.

A while back I made this fluidized bed demo as a spec project. It is on my online e-commerce site www.ironvines.net/scientific-e.... It is mostly #lasercut #acrylic and PE beads. I'm running it off of a shop air compressor but it should work fine with laboratory air.

I think my brother liked his #bronzeage #Greek #sword. It has a nice #verdigris #patina and paste wax finish. Looks like it was pulled from a shipwreck in the Aegean Sea but was actually #lostfoam #bronzecast in my driveway.

My brother is a huge nerd for ancient Greece. For mythology and history. I made him The Sword of Hector based off one I saw for sale online. It was a #lostfoam #bronze #castmetal I had a bunch of copper scrap and added an ingot of tin to make the bronze.
