Yvan Alagbé's Misery of Love is one of the best graphic novels of the year according to The Guardian's James Smart.

This follows the Washington Post's list. Get your hands on "a work whose achingly allusive charge grows stronger with repeat readings."

"There is plenty of backlash—it’s just a grittier and less organized form of it, carried out by Washingtonians with cellphone cameras and some spare time."
The resistance is active in DC—you’re just not looking closely enough
It's not massive protests on Pennsylvania Avenue, but happenstance hecklers and Nextdoor posts.

"Patriotism is the love of the country. But you can’t love your country without loving your countrymen and countrywomen. We don’t always have to agree, but we must empower each other, we must find the common ground, we must build bridges across our differences to pursue the common good." C. BOOKER

This is my country. I was born and raised here. I said the Pledge of Allegiance in grade school — and still say it at baseball games and veteran luncheons. I served in the military and earned a Purple Heart for it. I raised my children to be good Americans. Don’t ever try to take my country from me!
If Heather's Idea resonates, go for it! Here's mine:

I'm an American.

One of millions.

This is my country, where I have dreamed since first I was my mother's daughter.

This is our democracy.

This is OUR country.

We the People ARE this country!

What say You?

We’re better off when we lift others up rather than keeping people down. I trust science. I believe that our children are way smarter than they’re given credit for. I try to give more than I get. I know that we must always try to do better. I am an American.

I am an American. My roots run deep - back to the Mayflower according to family legend - but the great thing about being an American is that everyone, from the first settler to those who became citizens today, is equal. You are all every bit as much Americans as I am. So stay strong!
