the other thing i’ll say here is i am a bit frustrated with the narrative of online radicalization that treats it as akin to brainwashing. it lets individuals, families and communities off the hook for the choices they make and the environments they foster

We all may be tired, broke, depressed & everything else. But we still make an effort. I may not have a dollar to spend but I’ll run errands with my friends or go help them clean or meet up in the park with food I already had at home so we can be together.

Of course there were moments when Lauren's ego showed, and the narrative of Earthseed fell flat.

But ...a dark skinned Black woman galvanizing people in an apocalyptic time is no small feat. Lauren might have found more grace if she died young, which is a damn shame.
