On Friday, January 30 students and workers across the Bay Area will walk out and meet at 1:00 PM at Dolores Park. Arab Resource and Organizing Center writes, "We support the call from Minnesota-based Somali and other student organizations [...] join the national day of action to say ICE OUT OF EVERYWHERE! Now is the decisive moment. If we take a stand now, we can stop the killings, stop the kidnappings, and end the war on our communities."

SAN FRANCISCO; January 29, 2026 – After surveys by hundreds of volunteers and partners, results from the 29th annual Western Monarch Count led by the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation reveal another historically low population. Approximately 12,260 monarchs were recorded across 249 sites during the typical peak overwintering period from late November through early December 2025, when monarchs cluster together in groves of trees along California’s coast.

“Tribal Nations were not meaningfully consulted on a project that directly impacts our waters, sacred places, and our salmon,” said Josa Talley, a Karuk Tribal member and Communications and Outreach Coordinator at Save California Salmon. “That alone should have stopped this project. Christian Diaz subdued a home intruder after they had broken in and shot Diaz’s son. PHX PD then arrived and murdered Diaz right in front of his family. One of his children reports that their father’s jaw was completely shot off. Diaz was the father and provider for 12 children.
