We acknowledge that to be accessible we must be intersectional.

Our goals include not centering only white and cisgendered voices.

We're here to build a movement that focuses on the needs of one of the largest groups of underrepresented voters in this country.

We hope you'll join us.

Want to do better at #alt-text? There's an excellent guide via @veron4ica.com's website at veroniiiica.com/how-to-write... the infographic below is from that page.
An infographic titled “How To Write Alt Text” featuring a photo of a capybara. Parts of alt text are divided by color, including identify who, expression, description, colour, and interesting features. The finished description reads “A capybara looking relaxed in a hot spa. Yellow yuzu fruits are floating in the water, and one is balanced on the top of the capybara’s head.”

Please consider working on your alt-text. Alt-text should create equity. To do so it must include all the information in the photo available to sighted people. It this case it should include the byline and a description of the photo.

Our understanding is that this will also affect Vocational Rehabilitation which helps so many disabled adults enter or re-enter the workforce.

The end of federal enforcement of special ed laws. Some states - including MN - will likely be ok. But a lot of disabled kids in a lot of states are going to lose the education that federal law and decades of jurisprudence say they are owed.
Education Department wipes out special ed office in shutdown layoffs, union says
The Education Department laid off nearly everyone at the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services.

Republicans keep saying the “genuinely disabled” don’t have to worry about losing Medicaid.

All disabilities are genuine.

You also need healthcare to get a diagnosis. To get the paperwork done. To “prove it”.

They’re ensuring people get trapped in red tape loopholes so they can’t get care.

Boycotting is a privilege.

Prepping is a privilege.

Protesting is a privilege.

Leaving the country is a privilege.

Not all solutions are accessible to everyone.

We need robust community care to ensure people aren’t left behind.

NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya used sickle cell disease research as an example of something he would not call DEI and cut. It's being cut.

We need people to speak up against this loudly now. Before they move further down their list! Call or write your representatives.

Many disabled folks rely on powered devices to keep them alive. The extreme heat of summer often causes power outages, which kills disabled people.

This is a downstream devastation of climate change - and why climate justice is so important.

It’s the marginalized who will suffer the most.

People with disabilities will often be impacted harder & faster by extreme weather events.

Check on the disabled people in your life. See if they have contingency plans and include them in emergency preparedness.

The last power outage nearly sent me to hospital 🧵

Humidity will soon surge to extreme levels across 40 states. Find out where there will be excessive heat and humidity — and how humidity patterns are changing.

Yes! If you'd like to contact us look for us on the Indivisible website. We're looking to find people interested in helping get this off the ground.

Too many cooks might spoil the broth, but I don't have enough spoons for that. Many hands make light work!

Disabled people are not expendable.

Disabled people are not lazy.

Disabled people are not “choosing” to be sick.

Disabled people deserve healthcare, social supports & accommodation.

These are not controversial concepts. Ableism & health supremacy tell you otherwise.

Fight with us. Fight for us.

This is violence. It’s eugenics. It’s fucking evil. And the worst part is it’s gonna get very little attention and most people aren’t even gonna notice cause y’all have simply moved on.

“FDA Commissioner Marty Makary is sending signals that FDA will likely not authorize a COVID-19 booster vaccine this year for children, and perhaps not for the general population as a whole, saying he “cannot, in good faith” recommend booster vaccination for children.”

The “covid is only a threat to the vulnerable” narrative primed the pump for the eugenics movement we’re seeing now.

It conditioned people to see the disabled & vulnerable as acceptable losses. People who were probably going to “die anyways”.

It paved the way for fascism.

This was such a fun conversation - tune in to hear all about upcoming No Kings protests, popular misconceptions about "the resistance," how we fight back against authoritarian creep, and the pros and cons (mostly pros!) of working with your spouse!

Was so fun to do something a little diff on the pod & meet the organizers of the Hands Off/No Kings protests. Though the idea of being a co-executive director of an organization with my spouse gives me hives. @ezralevin.bsky.social @leahgreenberg.bsky.social

Autistic/ADHD traits that “quirky,” “maverick,” or “genius” in the rich are “weird,” “rude,” or “unemployable” in poor people. Much easier to be neurodivergent in the workplace when you’re the boss and raking in the money.

Hi. We're new and what you're saying is central to our mission statement and the beginning of our goals. We're hoping to create another space for this to happen. Everyone who wants to do that work is welcome.

If you're seeing encouragement/demands to do alt text and you're overwhelmed or confused about how to do it and you're worried you're going to do it wrong...

this thread is for you.

First: prompt questions to get you started.
ebthen.bsky.social
Alt text prompt Qs:

What would someone who can't see the image need to know about it in order to take part in the conversation? What is it about this image that made you choose it? What are the important details someone who could see the image would take away from it?

(Not for images of text.)
