Seattleite dreaming about being in the mountains. Love walkable, bike-friendly cities. Reign FC fan.
Flowers in front of Bryant Elementary in remembrance of their librarian who was killed walking in the crosswalk at Sand Point Way & Princeton Ave NE by a speeding driver in August. Preventable deaths like hers can deeply impact a community. Thankful today for everyone fighting for safer streets.

NEW: After paying for hotel rooms to shelter homeless people, Seattle deliberately left them vacant.

By the end of 2024, taxpayers were spending $4,200 a month per empty room at a time when thousands of residents were without a roof over their heads.
Seattle Spent Millions on Hotel Rooms to Shelter Unhoused People. Then It Stopped Filling Them.
Early last year, the city signed a $2.7 million lease extension to continue using a hotel’s rooms as shelter space. Yet despite committing to pay the rent, the city stopped sending people there.

A thread today from #yimbytown conference. Walkability comes from both land use and transportation policy. Adding housing to walkable neighborhoods lets more people enjoy walkability, as does making streets better.

Last October, my 83 year old mother and I visited DC and took the Metro and walked to many art museums. This was one of my favorites at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Children are safer when families are supported — not separated | Op-Ed
Society must lift stressed families up with services, rather than remove children to foster care.

“Thank you for writing to my office and sharing your thoughts on the Comprehensive Plan, as related to XXX.” This is the reply I received yesterday in response to my early June email to CM Rivera (who represents my district) about increasing the capacity to build more housing in my neighborhood.

Biked by Mioposto at 35th Ave NE & NE 55th St this morning! When the person crashed their car into it last night, people were eating outside. Even the people eating inside had to flee to avoid the car. Apparently, this isn’t the first time.

Opioid deaths are still rising. Methamphetamine deaths are now rising faster in Spokane, says UW researcher

If there’s one thing the majority of Seattleites in D4 agree upon it’s the need for more transit and fewer delays getting transit projects done. CM Rivera’s amendment doesn’t represent what her constituents want.
The Seattle Council's land use committee was set to vote today on a bill revamping the city's land use code to streamline permitting for ST3 light rail projects. But I'm hearing that CM Martiza Rivera has last minute amendments and the vote has been delayed.
