also hate the "what do you have to hide?!" argument for when I say I want privacy. I cannot trust the actors who horde my data. I have nothing to hide, but nothing to gain. They have a lot to hide, and a lot to gain, or else they'd be more transparent about why they harvest data in the first place.

It's also important to face yourself. If you know who you are good, bad, ugly, you cannot be taken advantage of. Self-denial allows you to be hijacked by bad actors thru guilt, shame, insecurity, or self-hatred. It's a tool of control. You don't have to love yourself, you just need to know yourself.

Also: If you don't know what the opposition is doing, you will never be able to beat the opposition. That is true in all aspects of life. Know thyself, know thy enemy. Understand how they think and why they think what they think. Then you need to engage thoughtfully to persuade someone to your side.

Now, more than ever, it is important to form your own beliefs and opinions. It's important NOT to rely on second-hand information or misleading clickbait/ragebait. That five minutes of removing bias and doing research goes a long way in staying informed and not being swayed by emotional arguments.

as someone with mental illinois, it's really perturbing to exist in a surveillance state that uses a lot of what it knows about you to market specifically to you. It makes it unsurprising that psychosis is on the rise and people think they're being watched or divinely led. It's kinda gross.
