This essay from @ijeomaoluo.bsky.social! ❤️‍🔥! "And as long as living is just this simple diminished thing - your heartbeat, your comfort, your privilege - your life will be fragile. It will be at great risk.

But if your life is your connection to people...your life is stronger than the state..."

I'm so fucking sick of this passive language. OUR communities are under attack and have been under attack.

I'm an abolitionist but I also absolutely have a Book Jail:

The bottom corner of my bookshelf where I put the books that have annoyed me or are by authors who annoy me.

Stacked page out so I don't have to see the covers.

I hate socks, but I hate sweaty feet and stinky shoes more. So I spend all day going "oh gawd what's wrong with my feet? What is choking my ankles?"

Last night I was feeling so panicked and couldn't remember why & then I remembered I was still wearing socks.

We need a better solution.

Did you know that the publishing industry doesn't like big books? It's always been so weird to me, because when I love a book I want it to go on forever.

But if you aren't an Obama & you write non-fiction, they usually want 100k words or less...

Great question! This year has definitely radicalized me further, but it's also brought me closer to the heart of the book as our systems become more oppressive. Now we need to fight for each other & care for each other more than ever.

But I would add that disruption is a vital part of revolution
@ijeomaoluo.bsky.social just finished this and knowing it came out before things got ✨️worse✨️

I'm so curious if anything has changed for you around the approach for abolitionists in just a year since launch. It's so hard not gravitate toward revenge on oppressors rn. 🫠

Wonderful read, thank you!
