LONG RAMBLING EMOTIONAL THREAD:

It's World AIDS Day. Since the Administration has decided to keep it quiet, I'd like to share my introduction to AIDS.

I grew up in Seattle. My mom remarried a man who had a brother who was a King County Sheriff's Deputy. His name was Terry and he was gay. 1/x

Somehow, I suspect these issues are somewhat related, in their own way.

The funniest most chilling thing about this is the question of why this has even come up. Who has a burning desire to… display these symbols ?
Update: The U.S. Coast Guard reversed course, saying the swastika and noose were indeed hate symbols that are prohibited.

This came hours after The Post reported that the service was about to enact a new policy that downgraded those symbols.
In reversal, Coast Guard again classifies swastikas, nooses as hate symbols
The new order came hours after The Post reported the service would instead classify such symbols as “potentially divisive” under guidelines set for release next month.

Given the gradual intensifying policing happening -- independent of, you know, the intensifying facism happening -- this seems like a terrible idea.

Regarding LRP:
Not just books; they also ingested journals as well. I was rather startled to see my (quite ancient) one and only scholarly article in their database.

As I understand it, authors in edited volumes (including journals) can't collect, though maybe the publishers may be able to.

Remember: they used thousands of academic books too! If you’re a scholar, check for your books too. This isn’t just novelists and pop writers, it’s academic books too!

I think Americans are realizing that democracy is a participation sport, and the the government is ours if we want it to be. I feel like we got complacent and hoped some other third party would do the work for us. Seems like we have to learn that lesson every generation.

Regarding LRP: The DoD says:
"...it will be adjusting National Guard troops’ presence in Chicago, Portland and Los Angeles 'in the coming days' to 'ensure a constant, enduring, and long-term presence in each city.'

So some other state's guard may become an illegal occupying army here. Yay.
