You don't claim credit for giving teachers a raise, when you tied that to stealing public money meant for public schools and giving it away to fund vouchers #utpol #uted #education #utah #utpol
House Majority Whip Pierucci says there's an element of "humility," but she notes they are repealing the liability insurance component that was in the bill. She's going over the list of things the legislature has done for teachers, firefighters, etc.

It's compelling to revisit some of the arguments related to vocational education from the 20s and 30s - even the staunched advocates wanted to limit the number of hours students spent in vo-tech to ensure they got a full liberal arts education.

I agree that this should be the purpose and goal of K-16. Companies can and should bear the costs of training and developing new employees.
There’s always talk of “we are preparing children for 21st century jobs,” “we are preparing children for jobs that don’t exist yet.” How about if the job of K-college education is to produce good citizens who know how to read, write, think, learn and improve themselves.

Their brains worked less, but they felt just as engaged—a kind of metacognitive mirage.”🧪

The first school to market itself as AI free is going to corner the market on people interested in actually learning. And I would not be surprised if rich families and the children of people creating this tech were the first movers.
My employer, Dartmouth College, today boasts it's 1st Ivy "to launch AI at an institutional scale." It is doing this by partnering--"more than a collaboration"--with Anthropic, a company that stole the books of many faculty, me included, which many of us are suing.

This framing makes it seem as though AI is inevitable. The lack of critical engagement about the limitations of AI in teaching and learning, not to mention the questions about ecological impact are really disappointing in this moment particularly from a labor leader #edtech #education #edsky
AI is already in our schools, but teachers must help shape how it’s used. When screens pull kids’ attention in every direction, we can’t afford tools that make things worse. Glad to attend the @eduinternational.bsky.social Global Conference on AI to fight for educators’ voices to guide this work.

Some of the greatest hits by the Utah GOP, all in one article:

1. Baseless fearmongering about Utah turning into California
2. A disdain for voters being able to choose for themselves.

This is why we need Nate Blouin in Congress for Utah. I know he will work on real problems and offer real solutions. #utpol #utah
In Congress, one of my top priorities will be securing substantial funding and regulatory changes that strengthen current efforts to save Great Salt Lake to actually meet the severity of the crisis. This is a multibillion dollar problem that we're not going to fix by ourselves.
The dust blowing from the dry bed of the Great Salt Lake is creating a serious public health threat, two environmental nonprofits warn, that policymakers and the scientific community aren’t taking seriously enough.

It's not enough to hold a supermajority in the state legislature, the governorship, or in the U.S. Congress. They want total power without any dissent. #utleg
Ain't no other way to say it: Republican utleg are a bunch of whiny, power hungry taint warts throwing tantrums.

Utahns deserve honest and fair representation. Republicans want to stay in power with their stranglehold on citizens at any cost and any means.
BREAKING NEWS: "Judge Gibson gave us a gerrymandered map," Senate President J. Stuart Adams says, announcing the legislature's appeal to the Utah Supreme Court.

A special session planned for Dec. 9 to outline plans. A constitutional amendment for the 2026 ballot on citizen initiatives. #utpol #Utah
