The Republican Health Care Crisis: Higher Costs, Less Coverage

Donald Trump and Russell Vought caused a government shutdown, and now they're trying to take it out on civil servants who had nothing to do with it.

Not only is it morally bankrupt, it's illegal.

Breaking news: A federal judge plans to temporarily block the Trump administration’s plans to lay off thousands of federal workers during the government shutdown, indicating she’ll probably side with unions, which have argued that the dismissals were illegal.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Republicans are weak.

They’ve shut down the government, driven up health care costs so billionaires can get tax breaks, and now they’re hiding from a vote on the Epstein files.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, tearing into her own party, says GOP men in Congress are ‘weak’
“There’s a lot of weak Republican men and they’re more afraid of strong Republican women,” Greene said.

Americans across this country — in blue, red, and purple districts — want Congress to protect health care and stop costs from skyrocketing.

Democrats are at the table, ready to negotiate. But Republicans are too busy on their vacation.

Trump is building a golden new banquet hall and enriching his billionaire donors, even as half the country says it's harder to afford groceries.

We've never had a more out-of-touch president.

Kicking millions of Americans off their health insurance doesn't mean people won't get sick.

It makes health care more expensive for everyone.

My position is clear: I will not allow Republicans to raise health care costs and slash coverage for millions of Americans while they give billionaires even bigger tax breaks.

I work for the hardworking people of Pennsylvania, NOT the ultra-rich.

Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House. The devastating impacts of this shutdown fall entirely on them.

Minnesotans made this clear at my town hall: Republicans need to end this shutdown and stop their efforts to throw millions off their healthcare coverage.

America's civil servants had nothing to do with the Republicans' government shutdown.

Trump doesn't care. He's using the shutdown he caused to attack our neighbors' livelihoods and gut critical services.

That's why he told Republicans not to negotiate. He wanted this all along.

Republicans would rather shut down the government than help millions of Americans afford health care.
Now, Donald Trump and Russell Vought are using the shutdown they created as a pretext to fire federal workers. This illegal attempt to fire hardworking public servants shows that this shutdown is exactly what Republicans wanted all along. To Donald Trump, this is just another excuse for an attempt to seize more power for himself.
Instead of threatening Americans' livelihoods, Republicans should be working with us to end this shutdown and protect the American people from the health care crisis they inflicted on them.

A senior couple earning $82,800 a year could face a 236% increase in their premiums. A family of four earning $64,000 a year could face a 226% increase in their premiums. People will lose their health insurance, or It will become unaffordable. This is a life and death issue in Ohio.

I'm sick and tired of Trump and Russell Vought gleefully demonizing and attacking federal workers.

These folks are our neighbors and friends. They keep America running.

Trump and the billionaires in his cabinet could learn a thing or two from our AFGE neighbors.

Democrats are ready to negotiate to save health care and stop premiums from skyrocketing even higher. Republicans refuse.

The proud working people of Philadelphia, of Pennsylvania, and across the nation are loud and clear: don't let Republicans steal our health care.

I won't back down in this fight. We must save health care for millions of Americans and end this Republican shutdown.

Have you seen your health insurance premiums skyrocket thanks to the GOP’s refusal to extend ACA tax credits for working families?

Share your story with me at tonko.house.gov/contact so my Democratic colleagues and I can keep fighting to lower your costs!

My constituent Ann relies on the ACA to keep herself and her family healthy — but she works two jobs to make ends meet.

She's terrified of what happens if Republicans let the ACA credits expire. She doesn't know if she'll be insured in 2026.

This is why we're in DC fighting.

Last night, I hosted a town hall on the Republican Shutdown with hundreds of our neighbors.

Folks packed the room and asked incredibly thoughtful questions about what this shutdown will mean for them and how we can continue to hold the line to protect health care.

Day 9 of the Republican government shutdown.

Instead of negotiating to reopen the government, Republicans would rather raise healthcare costs and kick millions of Americans off their coverage.

Unacceptable.

Trump is gleefully using the shutdown he caused to inflict pain on the American people.

As if enriching billionaires and taking health care away from millions of Americans wasn't bad enough, now he's ripping job-creating investments from communities across America.

We're over a week into an entirely avoidable Republican shutdown.

But they refuse to negotiate because they don't care about the consequences.

My neighbors can't wait — premiums are rising right now. Pennsylvanians can't afford even higher health care prices.

I've been asking Philadelphians to share how Trump's health care crisis is hurting them.

Our neighbors shouldn't be forced to pick between their health and making ends meet — which is why I'm fighting like hell to protect your health care from Republican attacks.
