I just want to politely note that book sales are really not good for many authors these days because times are not good and if you don't have a massive reach/follower count/whatever, it's that much more challenging. Also if you're hard to pigeonhole. This does not mean our works are not good.

I'd like to expand on this and say that doing that extra worldbuilding, writing that extra lore... all of that is even more practice that you get to give yourself at telling stories! Is it from a more macro perspective? Sure! But it still helps you develop your own voice, style, and writing!

My opinion on this is that it's fine if someone doesn't want to do a bunch of worldbuilding for their stories, but they should lay off telling people not to do it. They talk about worldbuilding like it's a trap, and if you do it "too much" you won't finish your book. They fail to realize we DO

I am *bone-weary* of peers who denigrate fellow writers who have spent plenty of time and effort on world-building/lore, claiming such creativity is inferior to storytelling. They do so out of jealousy because their own world-building, usually, is *horribly* mid.
