Highlight quote from Liz Truss' new "show":

"The cleverer people are, the more able they are to justify absolutely ridiculous beliefs like communism".

Really weird way to explain the fact that more educated people disagree with you.

This wildly tacky World Cup draw is a grimly fascinating preview of what happens if the aesthetics of fascism finally get their way.

Wow. Alderete is immense isn't he?

Sunderland have now played 7 of last season's top 10, still not been beaten by any of them. #safc

Nigel Farage and his cronies are a broken record with an imperial hangover that won’t shift. Reform is setting a deeply racist agenda with their only real policy focused on punishing migrants and people of colour.

They're putting Grok in charge of national security investigations. What could go wrong?
Dan Bongino just posted a list of shitty things (like shifting FBI away fr public and corruption to hunting migrants, releasing details of criminal investigations and lying about what they show, and eliminating diversity) that he's proud of.

One of them is putting AI in charge of NatSec.

Alarming!

Hobgoblin was one of my favourites for a few years.
Fell a bit out of love with it that time Nick Griffin did a cringeworthy cooking show and put it in his patriotic beef stew.
But such an iconic beer, as shown in this fantastic long read by @davidjesudason.bsky.social .

Tremendous piece of reporting.
From Falkirk to Aberdeen, Dundee to Inverness. Far right groups are attending anti-asylum protests across Scotland.

We spent three months investigating. People doxxed, attacked, threatened. And communities standing firm.

Our first monthly long read.

How has the government got itself into the position of standing up for Israeli football hooligans, while criminalising peaceful supporters of Palestine Action?

When I joined in 2001, GPEW had just over 5000 members in total.
That party was big enough to get MEPs, Assembly members, save Westminster deposits and be involved in running a couple of councils.
It just added a whole new party to itself in 24 hours.
This surge is now absolutely phenomenal.

110,000 members.

That's +5000 in the last 24 hours alone!

Between this and the mouse at old Trafford the other week- why are people so surprised that stadiums are full of rodents? They're a pretty obvious habitat, just as train stations etc are too. I just hope food and drink stalls have good health and safety precautions.

Only vaguely following the Scotland game ATM. Is there any football happening or is it just VAR-fest?

This is only half the story though. A LOT of that support would disappear if you asked the question another way, eg "That hill up there is getting a big wind farm, is that good?". That's how Reform will get votes out of it. They're very good at making normal ideas sound stupid when it benefits them.

Big scoop here is that Grimes has had a massive neon sign of his own name made.
And that he seems to think that Jewish people should hide their identity.
An incredible scoop from Darren here lifted straight from... Polanski's public Wikipedia page
