It's a little busy for my taste, but it's not bad.

I kinda like the ones from 2011-13 with the school seal worked in. But they are also a bit busy. When it comes to this stuff, simple is better i think

I'd love to give it the old 4K recreation for archival sake. An my own entertainment. Anyone remember this other than me?

#PittBS friends help me out here

For a brief time, Pitt tried to brand the student section at Heinz Field as the "Oakland Zoo on the North Shore"

It was short lived, but I had the t-shirt back in the day. The middle O in Zoo was a football

Anyone have an image of that logo? Can't find it anywhere
hidesquadron1.bsky.social
man. We went through some bad years of logo design at Pitt, didn't we? High highs and low lows. That 2006-7 logo was... bad. real bad. 07-08 was not much better.
hidesquadron1.bsky.social
A close second is the one from a few years ago for the 20th anniversary, which was pretty darn close to perfect too
hidesquadron1.bsky.social
I *really* dig the Zoo Logo for this season. Because it's the original logo but with better colors.

It should remain this forever. Change what's on the back or something every year instead.

Just getting caught up now.

I'm really going to miss Marc Maron's podcast.

Not sure I agree with that sentiment. They'd not be thrilled with it, but Steeler fans travel everywhere. Cranberry isn't going to stop them.

It would be dumb as hell though. Real dumb.

But again, Cleveland is moving to Brook Park. So this is not unprecedented or unlikely anymore in my opinion.

I don't think the board of trustees is going to want to buy an existing stadium when we're broke and building an athletic complex that isn't paid for.

Thanks, Heather
hidesquadron1.bsky.social
Well, as has been correctly established this morning by a lot of yinz, the University cannot afford to build/buy, let alone pay to upkeep.
hidesquadron1.bsky.social
Also, the Rooneys REALLY want to host a Superbowl. The draft this spring is a dry run for the city's ability to host such a thing. If it goes well i can see them saying "We'd be able to do this a couple more times via the Superbowl if we had a bigger, better stadium somewhere"

City will eat that up
hidesquadron1.bsky.social
The Cleveland situation is silly, but they saw an opportunity and took it. The current Rooney's don't seem keen to emulate that right now, but a younger future Rooney may have different ideas once they are in charge.
hidesquadron1.bsky.social
Additionally, I would think Pitt would likely just follow the Steelers anyway (provided that was an option given to them). They seem content to do that. Why stay with the old if there's a new option?
hidesquadron1.bsky.social
A couple of reasons, i think

The real estate would have more value to the city if it were redeveloped. Aside from Pitt games, I doubt many other events would opt for HF over the new stadium given the option

2nd - Upkeep. I don't see the city or the public wanting the city to pay for 2 stadiums
hidesquadron1.bsky.social
That new stadium they are building in Cleveland may become the model followed for a lot of NFL teams going forward that want something new. I think the state is contributing something like $600 million for it. crazy. and unnecessary, if you ask me.
hidesquadron1.bsky.social
I think if the Rooney's wanted a new stadium, they'd get it, and the city will help. Again. And if that happens, they won't keep two stadiums around.

Thank goodness they don't seem to want a new one yet. But that can change quickly. NFL owners are thirsty and will exploit the public for it.
hidesquadron1.bsky.social
Yeah, but if the city and team decided to build elsewhere (near the airport has been suggested, as has been Cranberry, if you can believe that nonsense) then I don't think Acrisure stadium stands for long after. Hitching to a new stadium with the steelers again - further away, no less - is not ideal
hidesquadron1.bsky.social
I get that. And you're right.

I just don't agree that we're better now, or that we'd be worse if we changed course, impossible as that may be to achieve.

And if - god forbid - the Steelers decide to move to a stadium somewhere else as has been postulated, we'd then find ourselves much worse off.
hidesquadron1.bsky.social
these are perfectly valid reasons if we were talking about "why it can't be done"

reasons I'd agree with.

The thesis and headline of this article was "Pitt would be worse off"

Which I cannot agree with, because I've seen both scenarios first hand. We're renters, not owners. That's not better.

Having attended more games at Pitt Stadium than I can count, I can say with reasonable authority that the parking situation did not dissuade fans from attending games. this is not a good faith argument. That place rocked for decades. People found ways.

Take [statement about apathetic alumni]

Response: There was an alumni revolt when Pitt Stadium was removed. I saw it. Some said they'd never come back. Distinguished alumni, like Marino and Ditka, ghosted the university for a decade.
hidesquadron1.bsky.social
Take: "A lack of parking in Oakland would make an on-campus stadium nearly untenable because anyone not within walking distance would have nowhere to park."

Response: It was done for 70 years. People will find their way to the stadium
hidesquadron1.bsky.social
Take: "The actual distance to the stadium is not too different from the commutes from off-campus housing at schools with on-campus stadiums."

Response: If going from housing to the campus is an imposition, they must also be skipping classes.

Most school campuses on Saturdays become party zones
hidesquadron1.bsky.social
Take: "The real issue lies with the apathy of the alumni base, who fail to make up for strong student attendance with meager crowds."

Response: They leave after Sweet Caroline. some come only for the expected singalong.

They leave early to avoid a long wait for the shuttle back to campus

This is the most asinine thing I've read in ta LONG time.

When you look at the atmosphere of every other college town in America vs ours, you can only come to one conclusion:

We had something special and we gave it up.

This writer is incorrect. laughably so
