March of 2005, I had opened a show for Robyn Hitchcock at The Iron Horse in Northampton, MA. After, a group of us found our way to a nearby open mic. Left to right: Lloyd Cole, Robyn Hitchcock, Chris Collingwood, Me, and Brian Marchese. With Hitchcock at the helm...
One year ago today we released The Wrong Record (@gentlehen.bsky.social). Since then this ragtag bunch of misfits songs have been having a dreamy time road tripping around the virtual world, seeping out of speakers and headphones and into the ears of monsters and angels.

Why not subscribe for weekly updates on what's happening on the local music scene?
It's Friday, so there's a new Freak Scene newsletter. This week, Amherst's Corey Cash wrestles with his own sliding doors moments on a pair of new EPs, one solo and one he did with his Bubble Scary bandmate:

Not liking something because it's popular is just as lazy as liking something because it's popular.

I've a new single coming out on Feb 6 called "You, So I". It's a pretty simple love song of sorts, something I figure people could use around now. I'm reaching out to DJs, podcasters, music writers. But what about you? Are you a DJ etc? I'd love to get you an advance "copy". Send me a DM? Thanks!

I've never been happier with a remix/remaster than I am with the new Globe of Frogs by @robynhitchcock.bsky.social. Everything has comes to life. You can finally hear the heart and urgency. It's a thousand times larger and a thousand times more intimate. New details and ideas. What a victory.

Since when did necks get so thick? Ferrigno as Hulk is just like regular-guy-at-a-brewery now.

Nice to hear the Breeders Cannonball on the radio just now.

I just wrote out the liner notes for my next album, Almost Always Overwhelmed, which should be out in the beginning of March. It feels sort of real now.

It really all comes down to this:

A.I. doesn't care

I'm listening to Candy Apple Grey for the first time in a while and I'm being reminded of just how many times I had this cassette going in my Walkman.

Angst.

Every week we curate a playlist of 25 songs we wanna hear and think you might enjoy as well. This past week's is still available for two days. The first half is a real nice gentle calming entry into the new mysterious year. If you save/follow the list you can stay in the loop every Monday. Thanks!

If A.I. is so smart it must know that I don't wanna get anymore emails about it. It just doesn't care.

"A.I. doesn't care"

Pass it around.

Spent the past fifteen minutes or so inexplicably thinking of what a WKRP-inspired holiday movie would be.

Do children from rich families that celebrate Christmas think they are better people than those less fortunate because Santa says he awards those who are good and not those who are bad and then he gives rich kids way more presents than poor kids?

Seven years ago, I tried to write a classic sort of Christmas song:

1/3 Do YOU have a non-holiday-themed album or song that evokes the season? I can't hear the opening guitar on the Yes album Going for the One without feeling that cozy, candle-lit, colored-lights-glowing-above-a-soft-living-room-carpet kind of memory that other traditional seasonal songs inspire.

Every time you post or re-post realistic looking A.I. fake images, videos, or audio clips, you contribute to a world in which guilty parties can claim actual photo, video, audio proof is fake.

How would the world be different if "Simon and Garfunkel" were called something different? Like "Paul and Art" or "The Autumn Leaves" or "Boulevard" or something.

(I know that they were called Tom and Jerry originally.)

You ever watch House Hunters on HGTV? Ever think about how it's a modern day retelling of Goldilocks and the Three Bears mixed with The Three Little Pigs?
