The Prewn show is tonight at the Drake!
New Freak Scene: Izzy Hagerup returns home to Western Mass this weekend for an album release show as Prewn at the Drake in Amherst. Here's my take on the album, "System." Also, Juliana Hatfield is one of us now:

Wrote for the Boston Globe about how music venues in Springfield and Holyoke are hoping to breach the tofu curtain between Hampshire County and Hampden County. There's some cool stuff happening!

Hampshire County is often the focal point of culture in Western Mass. But Hampden County is getting in the game. - The Boston Globe
Hope Center for the Arts in Springfield and De La Luz in Holyoke are booking national touring acts that don’t often appear in Northampton as part of an effort to educate youth in those communities.

Oh, hey, wrote a thing about Midori Jaeger for Line of Best Fit before I learned that writing for them is a labor of love. But "Dark Green" is a cool track, with an interesting story:

midori jaeger connects with nature, and herself, on “dark green”
London artist midori jaeger exercises cello and bass synth in the pursuit of comfort and connection on her earthy new single, “dark green”.

While at a kid's birthday party the other day, a guy there for his own kid's party asked if he could borrow a lighter for candles and I had to demonstrate how to use matches. So that's where we are now

Made a delightful lunch today of matzo ball soup and a potato knish from Lichter & Levin Deli in Northampton. I know the lines were ridiculous when they first opened, but the crowds have thinned, and the food is fantastic. The soup was restorative!

From Hill's last telegram to Big Bill Haywood: "It is a hundred miles from here to Wyoming. Could you arrange to have my body hauled to the state line to be buried? I don't want to be found dead in Utah."

Eric Bachmann has resurrected his Crooked Fingers project with a new album, "Sweet Deth," that's due Feb. 27. I'm as excited about this as by the Archers of Loaf revival from a couple of years ago. Here's the first track, "Cold Waves":

Niece in Chicago: "We should get one!"
"Malort advent calendar" is already such an unhinged concept but every little window just having Malort in it really pushes it over the edge into something transcendently funny
