Was ljsd, lukenothugh, at various times. Trying to be better.
I know it's pathetic of me, but I've not watched 'Have I Got News For You' since Ian Hislop praised Sunak for this
At least when Keith Joseph didn't believe in the railways he had the excuse that we had had 40 years of decline under British Rail. That Rishi Sunak basically didn't believe in them because he was doing 1980s cosplay is comfortably the worst thing he did as prime minister.
Canceling the northern leg of HS2 was an act of insane self-harm

It's hard to emphasise just how much I needed a couple of really nice interactions I had yesterday.

Crucially, all the *acting* awards.

His singing makes me appreciate Pierce Brosnan in Mamma Mia.
Muppets Christmas Carol is the best Christmas movie bc it includes a song with the lyrics, "your future is a horror story written by your crimes" & nothing says Christmas cheer more than that. Also Michael Caine deserved all the awards for that performance. Perfection. No notes.

Ok, I kept the Secret Santa gift really simple. But I've made sure to write an accompanying note. It's ended up being a sonnet. Ngl, this could be very funny, or it could come across as really weird.

Thankfully we get on pretty well, so I think it'll be the former.

Genuinely and non-ironically the most impressive thing about the Wicked musical is that the songs are actually quite badly written lyrically

None of the clunky lyrics matter because everything around it is fantastic

Successfully cancelled my Times subscription.

Gave the Rachel Reeves chess article as my reason. What a joke.

The Times subscription cancellation person hung up on me!!!

They make it unreasonably difficult to cancel. This can't be legal?

Calling to cancel my Times subscription – "we are currently experiencing an extremely high number of calls" – I'm not surprised!

I don't watch Have I Got News For You anymore, and having seen Ian Hislop's horrid comments about Robert Jenrick's appearance, I'm very glad I made that decision.

The cool thing about having friends who weren't born in the UK is I get to introduce them to The Snowman for the first time

Genuinely think that's my (cheat?) answer for best Christmas film of all time

A question for someone with good taste

I'm doing a Secret Santa gift for someone with whom I've often spoken about our shared appreciation for whisky.

Would a personalised hip flask be a fun gift or a bit naff?

And if the former – initials or name?

I worry about misjudging this sort of thing!

The really tragic thing about there being so few great comedians on TV is, they do exist! They're just mostly on Instagram and TikTok. Why is TV not trying harder to poach this talent?

Between Kemi Badenoch making stupid remarks about the budget being 'un-Christian' and comedians on The Last Leg being incapable of making an insightful and informed joke about the KPop Demon Hunters news story, I do worry about the decline of religion in this country, purely on an intellectual level

Christmas dinner early afternoon, Christmas pudding evening
UPDATE: in the btl comments quite a few people are livid with my suggestion that nobody really wants to eat Christmas pudding at the end of the Christmas Day meal.
No review from me today cos it’s the @ft_weekend.com CHRISTMAS SPECIAL, edited by @harrietfl.ft.com. It’s a banger and ever better in print. A top team including @nigella.bsky.social @timhayward.bsky.social @jancisrobinson.com and, er, me nominate the Christmas food must haves.

If Badenoch hadn't made that comment about the budget being unchristian, would anyone be talking about her interview?

That, I think, is the real scandal.
