Your annual reminder that the most revealing difference between Irish and Scottish Gaelic is definitely in the words for December: Mí na Nollag (Month of Christmas) in Ireland, and An Dubhlachd (the Blackness) in Scotland. So once again may I wish you all a lovely Blackness.

I hate that this is Ireland now.
Asylum seekers have told of how they were followed by men on motorcycles before being subjected to an alleged attack in rural Co Dublin yesterday.

The incident – which saw the young men beaten and their car windows smashed – has been condemned.

I don't think I've ever talked on Bluesky about why I hate the Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl.

Don't read any further unless you're prepared for uncomfortable truths about the "Nicest Guy in Rock", and his very substantial body count & subsequent cover-up.

Utter state enabled vandalism that these 10 homes are wasted for 15 years
A social crime when so many need a home
The owners, Government, Irish Water & Cork County Council should be held to account for this

“we’ve been subjected to concerted attack on civil society & courts.. as part of deregulatory agenda, facilitating disproportionate curtailment of rights & compromising public accountability. This risks exerting political pressures on independent judiciary” www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/comm...
Judicial reviews serve the common good
Rather than castigating public-spirited ordinary people concerned by planning problems, the Government should focus on properly resourcing the planning and legal systems

Also ban evictions for sales & limit 2nd homes

Like in Netherlands Germany France Denmark Slovenia Sweden Belgium Spain Portugal Italy & Switzerland

For a country that owes its independence to fight for tenants rights, why do we still prioritise landlords?
#Speirgorm #EveryoneShouldHaveAHome
#Homelessness quick fixes

-enforce law on rental properties operating as holiday lets without planning permission

-prioritise bringing vacant property back to use, address barriers to scaling up this sector

-fix the regulatory burden for ‘over the shop’, Minister can do this at stroke of a pen

Years ago, my colleagues at Business Insider and I tracked YouTuber “cancellation” arcs. What we found is that for many entertainers, “cancellation” actually sets the stage for a redemption arc, one that can raise their profile higher than ever. It wasn’t career-ending. It was fuel.

This is one of the reasons why I balk at the idea that men are afraid to be perceived as abusive. In many cases, that perception is actually key to their success, because other people strive to make excuses for their behavior, deny it, redeem them, and elevate them in the process.
