I've seen over 700 Pre-Code movies, and hands down Sing and Like It (1934) has to be the funniest so far. A cast entirely made up of character actors, which may have something to do with how good it is. But the script by Marion Dix and Laird Doyle is chock full of gems I'll share in the next days.

A rosehip changes in colour from deep burgundy to pale pumpkin orange. Striations of pale brown add to the textual feeling of the image. What divination could you conjour from a handful of these? Sparking like diamonds, the bubbles rise above the washing up bowl in a castle of soap. A book is wrapped up neatly in dark blue paper adorned with a pattern of acorns, feathers, pinecones and leaves, in a silvery and paler blue palette. This art work at Tate is many pieces of shale, arranged to form a circle with a suggestion of stars within the layout. Bottom right are my legs and feet in silver and blur.

Sauce. Refill the whites with the tangy golden mixture, top with capers or chopped parsley. Smoked Salmon Looks wonderful, tastes even better! Blend 1 tbsp. A.1. Sauce with two 3-oz. pkgs.
