Let’s try this again, Hello y’all 👋🏽

I am a black feminist theorist & scholar of peculiar (affective & speculative) inventions. I’m currently a prof of Blk studies researching embodied anxiety, ghosts of racial intermixture, & queer intimate haunting in Blk lit & culture.
now out in the world (via onlinefirst journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...)

I am so happy to have penned this ode to a text for which I’m so stylistically and theoretically indebted & I can’t wait for the rest of the special issue of Feminist Theory to be live🌸

The proofs for “black Foucault: An Intellectual Reparations Project” are here!! I cannot wait for this ten year long collaborative project (w/my fav interlocutor Taryn D Jordan) to come out in Foucault Studies’ spring issue🌸🖤

HAUNT(ING) | HAUNTED | GHOSTS | INTIMACY

First class of #IntimateGhosts is done! The room was packed & they didn’t come to play. Here is an obligatory board picture to show the entanglement of terms that will be shaping our discussions this semester.

Saturday’s panel is still on!

Stay safe out there everyone🖤🖤
I’m going to be at #MLA2025! I’m excited to be presenting on a black queer reading-writing practice for haunting and the haunted & “the heaves” as embodied racial anxiety in Adrian Piper’s travel memoir “Escape to Berlin.”

Lemme rant here too: not me and my brother standing up for a black woman worker at the airport and this man came back at us with this “TAKE OFF YOUR MASK. I DARE YOU TO TAKE OFF YOUR MASK!”

The way this palm colored man’s face got all red and he stomped his damn foot like a toddler. Like sir😩

my mom still calls my job “school.” As in “Are you reading that book for pleasure or for school?” she is also the same woman who smiles & says “my little nerd” every time I update her on what I’ve been writing/teaching.

I guess to her, I will forever be that little kid tucked in a corner reading 😂

Holiday thoughts: everytime I’m w/my mom & brother together it takes zero time for me to realize we are WEIRDOS! Shared quirks, shared vocal affectations, constant disassociations, lovers of a silly little snack & good drink.

Man I love my lil Aries trio, I have no clue how my pops dealt w/us😂

opened a delivery today just to find out my brother bought my dogs night lights for when we are out of town (our dog sitter comes by the house to take care of them but doesn’t stay overnight). Apparently “it gets dark & they might get nervous”

&& he claims they ain’t his dogs too👀🤦🏽‍♀️

Might revive the Failure to Identify series in 2025. It has been on pause since 2020. i provide an audience, an event, a venue, a place to sleep, and maybe even some funds if we plan far enough in advance. If interested in reading/performing, let me know.

If you have Apple TV and are waiting for Succession to return, you should watch Bad Sisters in the meantime. It is such a fun ensemble cast and an entertaining and thought provoking take on the female revenge//“Good for Her” trope.

I finally watched Seligman’s SHIVA BABY and this is a horror film right? The way Seligman shoots the last third of the film, the close up shots between Diana Argon and Rachel Sennott, it all crafts such tension—I’m wildly anxious even as the film has ended
