I’m going to be at #MLA2025! I’m excited to be presenting on a black queer reading-writing practice for haunting and the haunted & “the heaves” as embodied racial anxiety in Adrian Piper’s travel memoir “Escape to Berlin.”

When a brilliant former student invites you to give a few words on the life & work of James Baldwin (prior to a filming of the beautiful narrative film “JIMMY”) you say yes.

I also want to share this anthology of short stories written by undergrad students in my black spec fiction course.

The creative final was optional & most chose to write a short story. The result was stunning & is an example of why I love teaching so much-esp. at a majority minority public school

keeping the same energy from the other place. I post about teaching/pedagogy/thoughts on my black lit, ghosts, horror, and all things intimate ghosts.

In the spring I get to teach this dream grad course based on my ongoing research for the first book manuscript ✨

How to do we ethically write about the dead? How do we “not tell the story that must be told” of those “poem-lives” that have been deemed “less than history?”

I forever grateful to my graduate students for holding space to thoughtfully grapple w/ these hard & timely questions.

On the docket for this Spring w/ University of Houston English. These classes feel even weightier teaching in the wake of the closure of the DEI & LGBTQ centers on campus.
