It was really hot and dry with a lot of wildfire smoke from early May until about 2 weeks ago.There have also been water restrictions for junior users and a lot of fields haven't been planted. A lot of the cattle has been sold off over the past couple of years, here locally. Ranchers downsizing

It's pretty good ground bordering riparian habitat right up to the river. The ditch is off a headgate along the river, but the hayfields it used to irrigate aren't farmed anymore. Still a lot of birds and wildlife along the river, but I have definitely noticed a crash in the insect number this year

It's bad Walked a good distance today on an irrigation ditch that runs out of the Uncompahgre river There's a lot of Milkweed and wildflowers; the Milkweed all gone yellow with the cold and in full bloom. We have plenty of the native Milkweed here on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains, and I have long enjoyed the Monarch πŸ¦‹ butterflies hanging around through the summer, and the huge caterpillar's that hatch from the eggs in the Milkweed plant.
