Soggy, autumnal 6k run for #UnconfinedWalks this morning. Plus spotted one of the new decorative benches that have been dotted around town - bonus fact in the alt text!

A decorative wooden park bench. The back section has been carved and painted in tones of brown and red. I think the shapes are supposed to be a mix of seashells and fossils as a nod to the geology of the local area... we're on oolitic limestone, don'tcha know

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?
